Wow.. thanks Bill, I was afraid I would go the whole weekend without crossing paths with a reall ass with nothing substantive to add..

As to Ricshoe's comment about proper calibration will allow the screen to display the film in the way it was shown in the theater, thanks that was useful, unlike Bill's comment wherein he was just an ass.

Did I mention Bill is an ass.

What you saw as a consumer off the streets was LCD's MotionFlow/MotionEnhancer/frame-rate enhancement/120 Hz/etc - whatever you wish to call it. Some people like that, which is why they promote that. It can be turned off.

Thank you, I'm glad to know that.

I bought a 52" LCD on Sunday and will likely get a new Onkyo 806 receiver, a PS3 (you know, for the BD) and a new PC for the den too. My son saw the movie Cars playing on the TV and started giggling and told me "We have to get that". I told him it would cut into our toy money at Christmas but he didn't care. So a big TV wins out over more Star Wars Lego sets.

We just got a Samsung Touch-Of-Color set this week.

While I'm amazed at the PQ, I did find the auto-motion (or motion flow, or motion plus, whatever it's called) to be distracting and to add a weird, video-tape kind of quality to what is being watched... double weird because everything in motion looks like it is gliding on oiled ball-bearings. It's not TOO CLEAR but rather it's TOO FAST. I can see the motion enhancement being a great thing for any situation where you want to see all the details of a very fast moving picture. This would be things like sports, olympics, dance competitions, etc - you will get better detail because you are seeing more frames. But film just does not look right - the motions seem "trite" as if the characters had no mass to them somehow. 24 fps looks like film - and faster frame rates do tend to look "cheap", "documentary" or "video tape" by comparison IMHO.

My wife and I are having a disagreement over this... she thinks it looks "cool" with the motion flo on, I think it looks "wrong". Oh boy, is this ever going to be "fun".

LOL, did you really think I didn't know that already? The problem is getting my wife to agree to turn it off. That battle was what I referred to as the "fun" part.

Everything looks like a cheap documentary or news report or theatrical play. I can't explain it. It seems the quality is too realistic to a fault. Batman Begins and ID4 both looked fake, especially the live action sequences. I thought I was watching a "making of" documentary during the Tumbler sequence through Gotham.

Does anybody know what I'm talking about? I'd prefer to stick with 1080i if my movies are going to look cheap with the double resolution.
Well it is most likely because of the settings that the tvs have on in the stores, they have way to much contrast, sharpness and brightness.
