It is put out by warner which means it would probably be dual format, but no word yet as far as i know.

Well, if they were to put the show onto Blu-Ray, it would have to be 4:3 since they weren't filmed in widescreen.

Wouldn't want to see it matted since it's obviously meant to be watched in 1.33:1

Friends may be bad on Blu-ray because the source is not high definition and it was filmed in 4x3 format. We have a better shot at TV titles such as a complete box set for the Sopranos and Rome (I hope, I hope). But Fiends and say Seinfeld may blow in high def because the source is not great for high definition.

Sort of related: Does anyone know if we would have to wait for the format war to end to see "The Office" on Blu-ray (NBC = MSNBC)?

I was wondering about that the other day about the source. How do we know the source isn't in HD?

A large number of shows were filmed on 35mm but I imagine it would depend on what they used to film it with.

The reason why I'm saying is is because of 'Star Trek'. It was re-mastered into HD and will be released on both HD DVD and Blu-Ray. So I would say that's possible with a lot of TV series including 'Friends'.

Anybody got an answer to this?

Friends and Seinfeld were shot on film. The DVD box set releases confirms that.

Making a new HD transfer will require more work but not impossible.

Yes, that's what I was going to say. Though I wouldn't say it's something I'm looking forward to.

'Heroes', now that's a show I'll like to watch in HD but that may take a while since it's owned by Universal. :-/

Some TV shows, although been shot on film, are transfered and edited on "video". So the finished master might be only on SD. If they kept the negatives they could retransfer those and re edit and redo SFX etc. But that is costly. One reason why some extras are on 480 too.

Friends in HD? are you serious? You must have a wife you're trying to convince into a BD player..lol.

There can't possibly be a male on this planet (who's straight) who likes shows like "Friends" or "sex in the city" those are total chick shows.

Just my 2 cents.

You're a guy, go eat some steak! Buy Casino Royale or MI:3 and chant:
"Go Red sox!!" or "Your team here"
Some people need big brothers to pummel them for these types of questions, or a positive male role model.

what does all this have to do with the Friends blu-ray release? As of late everyone wants to argue....What gives?

Friends is WB so I wouldnt expect a whole lot when and if it gets released
Seinfeld is the top selling tv on dvd set by far, and while the blu-ray format is new and the audience is limited I am sure they are waiting before they do a full scale launch when there is a 25% sales to dvd

is 'Friends' a chick show? It was incredibly popular among both genders. Yo
[Show spoiler].........................
ur 'theory' about Friends being a chick show is based on NOTHING
