Just to clarify, the power conditioner won't draw all that current itself, but it will allow your components to draw it which could overload the circuit. 20 amp appliances though have a different plug on them so you wouldn't be able to plug it into a 15 amp receptacle anyway.

I'm glad you posted that disclaimer considering Geek Squad burned down a 2 million dollar home in California when they ran a power cable behind the wall.

For exploratory holes through drywall, either walls or ceilings, you can also use a straightened wire coathanger. A friend of mine, who is an electrician and does a lot of installs, showed me this trick. It's fast, creates minimal dust, and leaves a small hole incase you need to fill it and try another spot.

wall fishing can be extremely difficult. i do it all the time at work and have a lot of experience doing it. wall fishing is all about the right tools and some handy tricks. i recently bought new surround speakers and wall fished them through an outside wall full of insulation and up through the attic and back down an inside wall. you can not see a single wire. it took me about two hours by myself which most wall fishing projects i highly recommend two people for and a dust mask to keep from coughing up fiber glass for the rest of the day as well as a long sleeve shirt. my work pays for all my tools so i have racked up several thousand dollars in tools just for this type of work so if anyone need a lille advise you are more than welcome to PM me and i will try to help.

That's pretty neat, and we have used magnets at work to try to snag the end of a snake in a tight spot, but the idea that you would just pull the magnet along the outside of the wall and the snake would follow it inside... I can't think of an application where I could do that, but I couldn't just shove a snake down the wall in less time.
The bigger issue is often there are things in the way that would prevent the magnet and pull from being close enough together, like a baseboard, built in cabinet, stud, etc. If you have all the other tools and have plenty of money, why not, but I have gotten by without using a tool like this, so I wouldn't put it high on your list of necessary items.

I agree, it's not a necessary tool, but it sure is cool

I ran new 12 gauge speaker wire for my rears last weekend. Let's say that it was NOT a piece of cake crawling through the hot attic. Small tip: whenever possible follow the same path (openings) made by the DirecTV/cable guys...really makes it easier.

I just wanna say thanks to the OP for making this thread. I followed his advice and got the necessary tools for the in-wall wiring installation of the surround speaker cables. I was planning on hiring somebody to do this task, but am proud to say I did it myself and it turned out great. Next I shall do the wiring for my LCD in-wall. Here are some pics Before and After:

Excellent! Glad I could help. I used to be so intimidated by this kind of work, I just wanted people to know that nobody has to be afraid, its easier than it looks.
By the way, since I wrote the original post I have gone back and wired the power for the TV and the components underneath properly. No more power cords through the wall!

Good Job dude! Looks a lot better

I did the same last Jan when I revamped my HT room... I hated the look of the speedways but since I don't own my place I only minimal wireing work. You can see some of the work I did here. The right surrounds was a pain in the ass... the was 2x4 in different places, insulation that was about 7mm from the wall... so I needed multiple holes to get the wire from point A to B. In the end, it was worth it. The left was a snap but some mud work needed to get done because of the glue behind the raceway... it ripped a few coats of paint and made a nice hole.
