August 30th of last year.

I was with the other camp at first (I got an HD-DVD player for my birthday back in '07 so I just started buying them), but then my XBOX 360 broke down for a second time and I needed a new TV for my room, so I decided to get a PS3 and an HDTV. I of course now had a reason to get Blu-ray's.

My first two purchases were The Rock and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I wanted to be blown away with my first two purchases so I thought these were the best options.

I now have 75 Blu-ray's - 96 if you count the different films in various collections (Star Trek, Dirty Harry, The Matrix, The Godfather, and Pirates of the Caribbean). Put together my standard collection and my Blu-ray collection and I'm now 1 DVD/Blu-ray shy of 1900. I also recently got a new laptop with a Blu-ray drive so that's another way I can watch them. They look great on here as well. I also don't have to worry about getting a mini Blu-ray player when they come out.

I actually started last year, around April. Yes, convieniently, that was about the time I got my tax refund lol.

Did the whole shebang in one shot: 42' VIZIO HDTV, PS3, Monster HDMI cable, Die Hard set and Cars on BR. I'm now up to 121 BR's, a little over a year later. Not bad, I'd say.

I'll even do ya one better: I remember the first VHS tape I ever bought, when and where, as well as my DVD first purchase.

VHS: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?; I was 15 in the mall with my dad.
DVD: Fiancee' bought me a player for Xmas, and I went to Best Buy and picked up Austin Powers 2 & Deep Blue Sea. THis was only b/c The Matrix was sold out.
