True, sometimes you can but remember condition is key and most people on eBay misquote condition. Some may consider something as "mint" when it really is "fair". And then there is packaging from the seller to buyer. Most people think if they put it in a tube, it will be safe, but that isn't the case generally.

EvilE just ordered from me, he should be receiving his order today or tomorrow, hopefully he will post here and let people what he thinks of the packaging.

Hey Kinsella5

DUDE you were right!! I just got that spiderman 3 movie poster I ordered from you in and WOW its amazing. I hung it up behind my TV and sometimes I find myself just watching the poster LOL.

Hey I also appreciate the care you took in shipping. It was a hell of a time getting all that tape off... THEN there was another box inside the 1st box... Just when I thought the treasure inside was mine I got bombarded by shipping peanuts LOL

Talk about great care in shipping. I appreciate it man. Once I finish moving things around Ill post a pic on line.

I have taken great pride in displaying posters for quite some time now, and I definately find this thread to be one of the most interesting on here. I have a mixture of feelings on the subject and would like to share a few positives and negatives with my experiences with original and reprinted posters. First of all, I wanted to say that the internet is completely full of fakes reguarding the Dark Knight posters, I have the original DS Why so serious Joker Poster sealed and rolled at the moment, even after offers of 3-500 dollars for it, I understand the price went down, but I think it's a masterpiece in every way. Now, concerning ebay, please make sure that you are getting a USA version of a poster, or blu-ray for that matter. No offense to our brothers and sisters to the north, but I hate buying something that says region 1, and it ends up being canadian and has french text on it. I recieved a two-pack of the "original" ds dark knight posters with the joker standing with his gun and batman standing in front of the burning building, only to find at the bottom, batmanlefilm.com... talk about coming unglued, completetly! same thing has happened with blu-ray movies, deathproof, and planet terror were victims of that...and if you like that they're french, awesome, for me...pretty enraging.

Now, these were just things that I happened to run across, an original DS poster cannot be matched, but at the age of 23, I just don't have the years behind me to have some of the classic posters I have come across on here, I have been lucky in my ventures getting the original Batman 1989 poster, one i had as a kid and did the unthinkable and poked holes into...

However, that was a one time deal with a shop that was going out of business, same time I got Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, Goodfellas and a few others, all I can say are originals/ authentics.

I have also dabbled in reprints as well, just out of desperation, Pulp Fiction, which in my opinion is best with just uma thurman, the rocketeer, the matrix, and then the WORST reprint ever.... ROBO-COP, I'd kill to have that one for real, but I can't stand and poster with folds in it.

I have picked up the reprints for all of the superman movies that came within the box sets, as well as casablanca and the searchers, all of which are very good. Whatever company does certain reprints for indiana jones, star wars etc. that I purchase from Hastings (movie/music store) I feel uses the same quality for their reprints as studios do for originals, but these people out there on ebay sometimes think a regular printer from an office max is what's what in printing, and it sickens me...

I wish the best to the soul who spent over 200K on the original Frankenstein poster, but just like comic books and sports memorabilia, the original is a treasure, a reprint is just for show... I hope each of you frame whatever you have, I even enjoyed mine in the 20.00 frames from walmart before I got smart with the UV protected glass and wood frames, hope you all show what you love to watch up on your walls, it's always interesting to see

To anyone who's bought from movieposters.com how well/fast is there shipping?

I found a few originals in my price range.

I was also curious where people get the UV protective frames and if they are worth the money one would spend. I mean I am new to collecting posters I just got my 1st one this week that I ordered from Kinsella5. But I don't want to make mistakes in caring for it/them.

Is it necessary to buy an expensive frame to display a poster that is kept indoors away from any windows? I'm not so concerned with how cool the frames looks but rather protecting my investment. If a frame looks too good I feel it might take away from the posters, no?

Thank you for the kind words, I am currently in Los Angeles and just now was able to respond to messages. I am glad your order arrived safely, yes I tend to go overboard perhaps in the packaging of orders, but I just feel packaging them up the way I would want to get a poster is first and foremost. Condition is key, and I always prepare for the abuse the postal service may dish out.

Regarding framing an original movie poster, it really depends on a person's budget. Even though I live in Seattle, where we don't get as much sun as other cities such as Los Angeles, etc, I believe in using UV glass. All of my posters that are framed are done so professionally by a local shop, as the owner does amazing work and I am always pleased with every poster she has framed for me and she is the only one I trust to handle my posters. But there are some less expensive UV-frames out there, but not sure if those are true UV glass or a UV-like plastic substance. Because I don't use anything but professional grade metal frames, UV glass, and acid-free backing board.

If you go the route of having a poster professionally framed, what I tell all my customers to make sure you inform the framer that the item you are having framed is a collectible. Explain to them that it is a original movie poster, as they may assume it is simply a reprint. Also make sure you tell them you do NOT want the poster dry mounted (which is the process of taking a poster and applying it to a styroform backing via an adhesive spray). That is done to remove ripples, etc, BUT when you do this, it is a permanent process and the poster then becomes worthless. Simply have the poster loose between the backing of the frame and the glass.

Regarding the backing, it is worth it to pay for the acid-free backing board which will feel rough to the touch and slightly off-white in color. If it is smooth and shiny, it is acidic so make sure it will feel slightly coarse when you run a hand along it. Over the years acidic mattes and backing boards can cause the item to yellow or discolor from the backside.

That is the 2002 re-release for Lion King, a new poster, and yes, Disney original movie posters can be quite expensive. I believe later this year we will see a re-release style for the upcoming Toy Story/Toy Story 2 Digital 3-D re-release, and then also a re-release style for 2010's re-release of Beauty and the Beast, plus Toy Story 3 is right around the corner, I expect a poster out for that by the end of this year.

Sure, post some photos. I just got back from a second trip down to Los Angeles so I am playing catch up with my customers. If you need two more posters, let me know. I sent you some emails regarding Dark Knight with attachments so you should be all caught up on which style is which, etc.

I've gotten my posters in the mail (V for Vendetta and Batman Begins). Very prompt shipment and Jon really does take care in packaging.

I do have one question, where's the best place to get frames for these 27x40 posters? Hobby Lobby doesn't even seem to carry 27x40, and the ones Michaels carried seemed to be cheap type ones. Are there any websites that are recommended to get the UV plexi and acid free backings? Seems like acid free foam core seems to be the popular choice online. Everything I'm seeing though seems to suggest anywhere from $50-70 for the frames. Does this sound like the typical price point?

Glad to hear that they arrived safely and you are pleased. If anyone else wishes to order or has any questions, feel free to send me a private message as I have a large number of titles available, ALL authentic originals in new, never displayed condition.

With regards to frames, you can go the least expensive route and try the 27x40 frames you see at Michaels or Aaron Brothers Framing, which generally run about $25-$30 each. Depending on where you live though, in the Sunday newspaper ads section, both of those retailers generally offer a 40% off coupon, sometimes even 50% off including poster frames. Michaels even offers at times coupons towards their professional framing service.

I have not spent enough time researching a place that offers frames via the internet, generally they are going to be the flexi-glass style which is more affordable but don't offer up the protection as a custom framer would be able to do. You should check out a few professional framers in your area, and inquire what it would cost to have a movie poster framed using metal frames, glass (also inquire as to how much it would cost to upgrade to UV-glass), as well as acid-free foam core backing. I have all of my posters professionally framed here in Seattle with the above UV-glass and acid-free backing. Remember NEVER have an original movie poster dry-mounted and always explain to the retailer what it is you are having framed. Most will assume it is a simple inexpensive reprint, so you need to tell them it is an original authentic movie poster, a collectible and to treat it more delicately than usual. Chances are the prices will hover around $125-$150 but you may find a framer in need of business that will do it for less.

Also make sure the framer does not trim the poster, that would be just as bad as dry-mounting with regards to the value of the poster now and in the future. Also, remember that acid-free form board is off-white and rather coarse to the touch, whereas acidic foam board is white and smooth to the touch.

Anyone know where I can buy a 27x40 poster for The Thing? I can get an original for $150+, but I really don't mind getting a print of it.

You can find reprints on eBay for around $20+, or there is also a seller offering an original and I just checked and that was only at $10. The original authentic movie poster for "The Thing" came rolled and also folded to theaters as most movie posters before the mid-1980's came folded with some rolled ones too.

Reprints would be rolled. If you are just looking for the imagery and don't care about the collectibility then a reprint found on eBay should suffice.

An excellent movie The Thing was. I remember the Sci-Fi network was doing a sequel with Frank Darabont involved but it never got off the ground. I have heard talk of a prequel (bad idea) and a remake (even worse idea) but I personally would like to see a sequel. I have an idea in my head, since the original was left open at the end....

To quote a expert source "...[using] glass is a no-no!" I have been collecting rare movie posters since the mid-1970's and for my rare original movie posters, I have them professionally matted, framed and with acid-free matts and backing. See the following link which does framing, preservation and restoration of rare movie posters: http://www.hollywoodposterframes.com...ect_investment

I hope this site and the information they provide helps. This is just MHO for what it's worth!

I would disagree with that article to a certain degree if you will. Yes, using standard glass, just like with standard plexiglass plastic would eventually cause yellowing and fading of the item framed. I only UV glass, and have no problems with any of the items, but any item that is framed, be it UV glass, plexiglass, etc if placed in directly sunlight can cause problems. Also an environment is a factor too. Here in Seattle, we don't see as much sun as those do in southern California, Arizona, Texas, and other states. It gets quite hot and muggy in those areas, whereas up in Seattle if we get some 80 degree weather here that is considered fairly rare. A lot of factors to consider, but I personally don't have any issue with ultra-violet glass when I have something framed.
