Far from an ideal comparison but I was expecting the UHD to look like the 35th with more saturation. Not the other way round.

Can't wait to get hold of the disc so I can see what it actually looks like.
...and still the original Starz!/Anchor Bay Blu looks more heavily saturated in color than both; that always brings me back to the color timing hack that was done on Anchor Bay's DiviMax transfer of this film (I like other DiviMax transfers in the collection, though, including Dawn of the Dead).

The colours look better to me, when I look outside on a fall day grass doesn’t glow. If DV has shown us anything it’s that colour looks much more realistic compared to BD. I’m really excited for this. Tuesday will be a big haul for me.

I agree about the grass and foliage (and let's not get into the whole "they didn't hide that palm tree in the background because they were shooting in sunny California!" debacle here), and it's one of the things that kept me going back to the THX DVD; the Anchor Bay/Starz! original Blu-ray release pushed too much "vivid" coloring throughout the transfer, and had other issues (too much video/ISO sensor noise in some sequences).

I hope you enjoy the release on your OLED; I will eventually get this to play on my Samsung 8 Series.

Can someone enlighten me cause I feel the upgrades are for color.
One of HDR's biggest upgrades is in contrast and depth to the picture, so I definitely think it could benefit black and white movies if used correctly. The only example we have is Logan though, and I thought it sucked there.

He says the Mono is the same as the box set at 1:33.

It sucks that this is getting DV on disc but not Christine!
Hopefully wowhd ship this early.

edit from the above review the color for the SDR video looks similar to the pallete I saw at the 40th anniversary restoration screening at FrightFest.
So im happy!

Took a screen grab from the above Video clip

Sadly the MONO is DVD quality Dolby Digital

NO ATMOS track

Only the previous Dolby TRUE HD 7.1 Mix

Lionsgate had plenty of disc space for an ATMOS upgrade and also a PCM MONO track to the fact they are going for DD Mono is just cheap.

I'm just grateful we're getting it at all, and lossy can sound just fine to my ears. I'm no hardcore audiophile, granted.

Lossy audio is still indeed fine, especially when running at higher bitrates on Blu-rays. I'm sure the "lossy" mono track is going to be satisfying for purists.

There are plenty of Blus I have demo'ed (and own) that contain Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks and they sound fantastic -- most rentals of Lionsgate Blu-rays from Redbox, the Michael Clayton BD (okay, that one is not really an aggressive example of a mix), the first BD release of Superman Returns...

Oh how I wish they had used a slightly modified version of the 1999 THX dvd color timings. Somewhere between that and the 35th version would have been perfection imo, with just a slight lean towards the 1999. I don't like how all of the trees are pure green in the day time outdoor shots of the 35th (and apparently also the 4K). It just doesn't feel very "Halloween" time to me when there's no yellow, orange, brown leaves on the trees & I feel it really adds to the atmosphere. Even then, the night scenes on the THX were better also. The 35th was stripped of some of the blue. Like I said, a nice mix between them would have been amazing.

Top = 35th, Middle = 2007, Bottom = fan "restoration" to "match" the THX DVD. I want the bottom, but with the detail of the top. The fall colors look outstanding, but the clouds are completely washed out.

I think we'll just wait and see if its lossy or not. Sometimes those things are wrong.

True lossless is better, but it’s still nice to have at least a lossy track. And I give respect for Lionsgate in labeling it as such.

80%, if not more, of Scream!’s releases had lossy tracks in DTD-MA containers and no one complained. How many of you are certain that the “lossy” track in the Blu-ray boxset was actually lossy?

Everyone is certain. It was verified across multiple reviews/sites and is labeled that way right in the specs. Also, the lossless mono on The 35th Anniversary is a fold down of the 7.1 mix. It’s not the original.

How would that be verified? I would really like to know for my own information.

Me too, wasn't impressed with Logan Noir in 4K at all. But if you take a UHD of something that was made with high contrast and deep blacks and turn the colour all the way down then you can see how striking B&W content could look in HDR.

Watch it be 192 kb/s, but as long as it's the true mono and not the downmix ported over then I'll still take it.

Didnt they do replacement discs of the fold down issue and do one with the true original mono mix? Or am I thinking of some other title?

totally agreed, and with 1978 film, dolby audio would be suffice... (not that i don't want lossless though)
