Watched this last night (first time on this set-up) and really enjoyed the presentation. I did some comparing with the remastered BD. There is just a tiny bit more high frequency detail on the UHD BD along with notably more film grain, of course. The BD almost looks slightly filtered on the BD by comparison (although not sure that's actually the case, but just saying). I definitely prefer the specular highlights on the UHD as on the BD they looked a bit too strong to me although not that they were bad - but they just looked more naturally rendered on the UHD BD and filmic. In addition, the color on the UHD looked just a small bit more nuanced in a more pleasing way. So, I think this disc is an upgrade, but if you are a film grain hater, you'll want to stick with the remastered BD.

I have a question.

My dad noticed on his 4K version that, when using the "direct picture" mode in the TV mode (where it shows the entire image with no zoom-in at all), there is a bit of "data" I guess you could it at the very bottom of the screen in the black bar part going across the entire screen horizontally. Is that normal for this 4K release?

What the "direct picture mode" actually does is disable the TV's overscan feature. Overscan slightly zooms the picture in. The black bars you were seeing are normal for UHDs, Blu-rays and DVDs presented in their original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Because a TV's aspect ratio is 1.77.1, overscan slightly zooms in so you cannot see the tiny black letterboxing bars at the top and bottom.. The "direct picture mode" is showing you the correct aspect ratio presentation. Stick with that setting

So the "direct picture" mode showing the weird jumbled data hugging the very bottom of the screen is normal for this particular Dracula 4K Blu-ray?

I don't know anything about your dad's TV and its particular settings but you should not be seeing a line of jumbled data on this disc.

Oops, my mistake. I misread and thought you were referring to the black bars as the data. Disregard my post. I have no idea what's going on with his TV. Never run into what you had described before

Does the UHD have those lovely stylized lighting scenes where the moon washes everything in a blue light still?

I think our UK release drops the Atmos track that the Supreme Series release had. But it's the new master.

Hmmm, it seems to have gone away. Weird.

I have another question, ya'll.

Why is it the digital code it gave me only unlocked the Blu-ray version for me instead of the UHD version?

BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA: LIMITED EDITION (3-CD SET)
LLLCD 1469
Music by Wojciech Kilar
Limited Edition of 3000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $34.98

La-La Land Records, Sony Pictures, Sony Music and American Zoetrope proudly present a three-disc remastered and expanded re-issue of acclaimed composer Wojciech Kilar’s (THE PIANIST, THE NINTH GATE) original score to the renowned 1992 feature film BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Composer Kilar’s score is a notable and breathtaking work – a lush, masterful orchestral swirl of dread, beauty, suspense and sensuality… The perfect complement to Coppola’s surreal gothic masterwork. Disc One and Two of this deluxe re-issue presents the premiere of Kilar’s “composed score,” his music as originally written for the film. Disc Two also features a bounty of alternate bonus cues from this material. Disc Three showcases the acclaimed original 1992 album assembly, remastered, with additional bonus tracks. Produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by James Nelson, this special limited edition re-issue contains exclusive, in-depth liner notes from writer Tim Greiving and sumptuous, blood-thirsty art design by Goldwasser. This release is limited to 3000 units.

Default Desperately Seeking Slipcover

Have been looking for a slipcover for this seemingly forever. Anyone know of a place or way to get one? It’s silly, I know. But when one of your favorite movies is the only one on the shelf without one, the irritating OCD part of my brain takes over.

Just throw away the slips for all your other movies and you’re golden.

This. I kept a few that were extra unusual/cool looking, but with most I’ve either sold them or thrown them away. It helps me avoid all of the OCD BS that I see others go through.
