It sucks that we'll have to wait for the extended version that Cameron talked about. I can say without a doubt that I will skip May's barebones version.
And, if the barebones (+ DVD) MSRPs at 39.99, I shudder to think what the special edition's MSRP will be. Being that it releases later and won't sell as much, I seriously doubt it will be discounted like the May disc will be. |

I must be part of a dying breed....I just care about the movie itself.....the ability to connect to the internet just to play some silly game that is on the blu disk and some 5 minute video snippet of Sam Worthington training 1,000 hrs a day for 30 years doing ballet so he can do a backflip off of a 50ft CGI tree full of glowing spirits, while mildly impressive is rather meaningless. I just want a good movie with good audio/video.....everything else is just sugar coated fluff.

40 bucks? That's what I'm talking about. No freakin' way would I pay that much for a movie. 20 bucks is pushing it. Guess I am gonna have to wait till the excitement dies down.

Where did you see $40? It will sell under $25 if it's a 2 or 3 Disc Set. I'm not sure of the specs but it's coming with the DVD also.

Hate to be the grumpy old man here, but really? A quickly-prepared bare bones release devoid of any extras to "maximize" the a/v quality? At $40 a pop? Why not just have a 2-disc edition so you can have the extras on the 2nd disc?
Oh, that's right. The point is to continue capitalizing on the hype, get people to reactively come out in droves to buy a $40 bare release, then spend another $30+ down the line on a "collectors/special edition": spare me. ![]() This is PRECISELY why I don't support anything having to do with Avatar; from the get go it's struck me as little more than an average film dressed up in shiny CGI technology. Call me a backlasher or contrarian, but I plan on staying miles away from this crap. |

I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. It's not like Cameron is coming directly to your house and forcing you to buy the bare-bones copy in April. The studio has been very upfront about having 2 versions being released this year. Wait until November for the special edition if want. I, for one, will be buying both editions, but if you've read any of my other posts, you'll know I'm a bit a of an Avatard. ![]() |

No one is going to pay $40. Do you still not comprehend MSRP?
It will be $25 at most on release. They are even saying ahead of time that there will be another release later in the year. So why the complaining? People who dont care about extras will get this. People who do, might wait. People who are completionists will get both. You're getting a choice, no one is forcing you to buy this version, especially not at MSRP |

Yes, I absolutely understand the concept of MSRP. And I promise you there will be plenty of people paying ballpark $30 for this release. Remember, let's not be myopic here: the average consumer isn't a blu-ray.com member or savvy collector-type that knows where to go for the best deals. Many, many people will just walk into Best Buy, see Avatar on the shelves at $27, and scoop it up with a smile on their face thinking they got a solid deal since the DVD was sitting right next to it at $20.
At any rate, it's not the bare bones release itself that irritates me, it's the fact that Fox/Cameron couch this release as a milestone and a favor to consumers and fans of the film because they're eschewing any extras to bring us a superbit a/v version. Please, spare me. If they really wanted a release that's reflective of the film's epic nature, give us a superbit disc with the film and a second disc with the extras in the same release. I'd much rather them just be honest and say they're capitalizing on the film's popularity by TRIPLE dipping within 12-18 months, on top of double-dipping the theatrical release within 12 months. Hell, this is America, we're all for you having your cash grab releases, but don't try to be coy and act like you're doing us a favor while you're at it. Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining. 1. Theatrical release, 3D and 2D 2. Bare-bones Blu-Ray 3. Theatrical re-release in 3D of "extended version" come late summer 4. Double-dip Blu-Ray with extras just in time for holiday rush 5. Triple-dip Blu-Ray in 3D in 2011. Rest assured Fox and Cameron will milk this cash cow 'till the milk turns powdered. ![]() |

This is crap.
If you buy this studio non sense of only giving us the best quality so they cannot put any special features with this release, you need your head checked. I am going to pass. First LOTR now Avatar, we have to send studios the message that we will not double dip on releases. Do not buy this crap, wait for the extended/extras version. Sigh, I fear my rant will be in vain... ![]() I will just download the High Def rip, that should tide me over... ![]() |

Ive seen the film 7 times, and its never lost its luster. Ill gladly pick up this release just so I can rewatch the film whenever I want, 3d or no 3d.
