They weren't really changed per say, but you can only watch them in HD as part of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, not individually with the original credits and such.

Admittedly, not big deal though.

I also remember hearing somewhere that some of the dialogue was re-recorded at some point, but I don't know if that's true.

May she R.I.P. She did a great job with Ursula's voice.

That's lovely. Jim Shore statues always look nice.

I have one of Pooh & Piglet, that given to me by my neighbor one Christmas.

Sad to hear that Pat Carroll died. I follow Jodi Benson on Instagram and she made a really nice post about Pat last week. 95 though, wow. She definitely lived a full life. Will forever be a Disney icon in her portrayal as Ursula. The Little Mermaid was prob my favourite movie as a little kid (before I saw Jaws lol). Still my fav Disney movie to this day.

Nice!

I like how his statues are somewhat rectangular. I'm not big into CG animation, and turning a toon into a statue is basically the same thing. But when the curves aren't completely rounded, there's not that weird hyper realism. That appealed to me when I was looking for Little Mermaid statues and found this one.

I was never a fan of his work. I don't like the fact that he colors them in these weird colors. That said, I can see the appeal for some, but these are just not for me. I much prefer the statues from the Walt Disney Classics Collection. I find those to be much classier, more beautiful

Pat helped create a truly iconic villain. Ursula is definitely one of the standouts in Disney villain canon. And she makes me laugh every time with her delivery.

LOVE the WDCC line. Own a couple pieces. I wish they would revive it with the same company.

The curved line was essential to Disney animation in the formative years and beyond...curves have a kind of pliant, springy life to them, straight lines are solid and ridged. If your art is based on movement, the curved line is a great asset.

Not really what I was talking about. Statues don't move. I go years without watching CG animations. Always think it would look better drawn flat. The 3D and hyper detail that always comes with that brings it too close to reality for me.

While not a fan of the Jim Shore line, I get what you mean. I prefer 2D myself. CG animation to me, while "perfected" animation (i.e. the character proportions will never accidentally be off-model, etc), has a sanitized look to it that comes off a bit hollow. I find charm in the imperfections of hand-drawn animation. It's a stylization preference.

Just watched the 4K with the THX LaserDisc stereo. I might do some more adjustments tomorrow morning, check if I can't sync it closer. Sometimes hard to tell when you're just looking at spectral graphs and playing the two different sound sources at once. Need to check where the lips truly ARE out of sync, being animation. But doing a quick comparison gives the impression the people who worked on the Atmos mix and probably the older Blu-ray mix are tone deaf. Sure, it sounds fuller, but the voices, particularly the men, sound harsher. Found it curious that the end credits on the LaserDisc repeat Part of Your World after Under the Sea, with lyrics, while the modern mix ends with an instrumental. Because the credits are redone, the LaserDisc plays about five seconds beyond the Disney logo after the credits, meaning beyond the video. Part of Your World is the better song, though, and I think repeating it without any of the other noise this time drives home her desire not just for him but about being up there, dreaming of some place else.

Still hoping originaltrilogy finishes their work on that cinema DTS mix. Don't understand why there was talk about it and then nothing, but maybe I'm not looking at the right places. I'm not an active user there.

When The Little Mermaid first came to theaters and home video, the end credits played "Part of Your World" sans vocals..

Maybe because there's no point, it's still a remix and cinema DTS is highly compressed?

The point is preservation. Laserdisc audio ripping is something that's been going on for years since some of the tracks don't carry over past LDs. Yes, some of the tracks are dull, but some have alternate takes, or a 70mm/35mm version that wasn't released after (like BttF).

Again, point is what are you preserving? It's like preserving an MP3 file of something that's been out on CD for years. And DTS didn't exist in 1989.

Ok, take Star Wars. Three audio versions - Mono, Stereo, 70mm. All three are preserved now. With respect to laserdisc, if there's a mix you want and it's only LD, that's the only way to get it.

If you want the stereo mix of Buck Rogers, it's only on LD.
I think there was talk in the Poltergeist thread about the LD having a specific mix.
RoboCop has a mix on LD that hasn't been ported over to anything else.
The list goes on.

But I understand some people don't care.

Yeah, somebody told me The Little Mermaid doesn't have a cinema DTS mix. The LaserDisc doesn't even sound like matrixed surround. It sounded crappy, the music that was going to the surrounds, so after five minutes I restarted the movie in stereo (with sub woofer). I want that Limited Edition DVD 5.1 mix that came out before the Diamond Edition. Not sure why nobody bothers syncing these. It only took me about two hours, for an eighty minute movie.

What's the difference with the LTD DVD 5.1 mix?
