You do know that you can just buy the spikes for the towers Mike . They come attached to metal bars that stick out either side of the tower for stability .

Default Riser for (2nd) PA-120 Done

Took a bunch of pics, but still need to wait for the Sub & then I'll take pics of the Final process & post those tomorrow. It came out pretty good; I ended up using 2 rows of 1" Foam pieces beneath the Riser vice One. It just looks better that way IMO.

I have decided to build myself a subwoofer riser based on all the great feedback from other forum members both here and others that I read. My question is though:

For the foam, is it ok to use memory foam for absorption? I was able to get my hands on a 3 inch thick 12X12 piece since my sub is 14X14. Or is memory foam too dense and will drown out all the base?

Not sure where you plan to use the foam, but I think you might be referring to putting the foam under the base of the subriser? If so, then you should be fine. The foam is to prevent standing waves from forming underneath the sub. It shouldn't negatively effect the subs performance at all.

I don't see it being an issue at all as it will be Under the Riser where it should be. The Riser I just built (per my posts above), is about 2+ Inches high & I used 2 pieces of 1" Foam under it. Pictures are forthcoming but I've seen the Massive Riser "CrazyBLUE" built (check his thread for pics, if not back in some pages here maybe), and his Subs are on Risers at Least 1' off the floor, with Foam completely inside them. You'll be fine. Good score on the foam!

You should be ok to use that. I used something similar in my 2nd riser and it works great.

Has anyone tried replicating the ACS Subtrap as a DIY version yet? I am designing a subwoofer right now and am interested in incorporating something like that as a riser.

My thought was to use a sand-filled Sonotube between two sheets of 3/4" MDF, with maybe some additional dowels supporting the corners, and then 2-4" of OC703 fiberglass around that as a bass trap, which would be wrapped in fabric.

I made a mockup here, the yellow is the fiberglass

As far as what is in the Sonotube, if I'm not mistaken the Subtrap has holes drilled in filled with polyfill to "tune" it, although I'm not sure what the benefit of that is. I would assume that filling it with sand to deaden vibrations would be more preferable. It seems any resonance at any frequency should be avoided if at all possible.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Your plan is excellent and the subwoofer and the riser will look awesome. However, it may be a bit of an overkill for the riser. You are going to build a riser that you won't be able to move. As you know, the most important factor in determining the performance of a subwoofer in a small home theater room is placement. To find the optimum placement, you need to be able to move the subwoofer and the riser and experiment. A riser filled with sand requires a crane.

I suggest that you build a dolly and put everything on it before you completely finish the subwoofer and the riser. That is what I did after I built this massive subwoofer with the help of Elemental Desings. Check Post # 614 in DIY subwoofer building thread and Post #836 in this thread.
