I just went to Lowe's and bought all the stuff to make my riser except the foam and I'll get that from Wal-Mart in the morning. I have a pretty good idea of what I'll be doing tomorrow. I'll take pictures of the building process and post everything up when I'm done. Hopefully there'll be a finished product tomorrow.

UPDATE: I'm waiting to meet my dad at his house so I can use his table saw to cut my piece of plywood down to proper size. Then I'll take everything home and put it together there. Pics to come later today.

OK I finally built my riser today. Here are some pics.

All materials used. Wood is already cut to size. Bottom frame is 2x6 and the top is a 3/4" piece of birch. in the bag is a large sheet of 1" foam I got at Wal-Mart and cut down to size and put 6 layers in the bottom of the riser. The carpet was left over from when my house was built. I used a spray adhesive to help hold the carpet, and secured it with a staple gun around the bottom, out of sight.

Bottom frame built.

Top attached.

Bottom wrapped with carpet and filled with foam.

Top wrapped with carpet and feet attached.

Finished product.

In place.

Oh no!!! You didn't get the WAF first?!!!

Hope we're not going to a funeral tomorrow... j/k

You did a good job with assembly and the carpet helps it to blend in nicely. Personally, I think it is aesthetically pleasing. I'm sure she'll like it.

Have you noticed any performance gains from it?

It looks about 6 1/4" height for the riser, correct?

That's pretty close to the height on mine (6 3/4") and I think they helped to tighten up the bass. At least I've convinced myself it's not placebo...

I know, I have always had a riser for both of mine, so I really never heard them without it.....but this many people doing it has got to mean something!

I'm sure there won't be any issues, but thanks for the concern. Since I used the leftover carpet from when the house was built it's a perfect match with the rest of the floor so I really don't think she'll have any objections.

Since I just finished it maybe 30 minutes ago and have been getting pictures posted I haven't had a chance to experiment yet to see if I can tell any performance differences. I'll be sure to post my impressions when I get the chance to play with it some though.

I put a tape measure on it and it's almost exactly 7" off the floor. The bottom is framed with a 2x6 and the top is a piece of 3/4" birch.

I was pretty close but did not take the carpet into consideration, only the lumber

It's funny because I started to throw that carpet away on several occasions and I even gave it away once and it still came back. As far as I'm concerned it was meant to go on that riser.

I wish I could. Unfortunately I don't have anywhere else to put another subwoofer. That's why I tried to get the best single one I could.

Even my wife wants an HT room in the next house, but that's a few years away at best. I've already been kicking ideas around in my head of what I would like to do in such a room for when the time comes though.
