Some of you guys are obsessed. lol I got the PRO-141FD but the only reason I can remember when I brought it home is because my 2nd nephew was born on the same day. So they share the same birthday! Double the cakes!

Haha. Well it's that time of the month to pay bills, and I've started to notice a trend with my electric bill. The last 2 months have been about double what it has normally been for the last 2 years. I live in a super efficient apartment so the increase has been about $30 a month extra. Is anyone else having similar increases?

The rate of electricity has been steadily rising. I'm thinking about installing a plasma in every room and leave them running all day and just shutting off the heat. hehe

Soon to be Kuro owner with a question. I'm deciding between the PRO-141FD and the PRO-151FD. One of the features I find attractive about the 141 is its ability to display in the PAL format. I have an Oppo BDP-83 that will convert PAL to NTSC. My question is this: How will an unconverted PAL DVD on the 141 look compared to the same DVD converted to NTSC on the 151? Would there be a difference in the picture quality? I'm trying to decide if PAL support is worth the extra $500 for the monitor plus $200 for the stand.

On the Elite Signature series PRO-141FD since it has an excellent video processor with native PAL support it is ideal to place the OPPO BDP-83 in source direct mode so it outputs native PAL. The PRO-141FD PAL and SECAM support is a nice feature. The PRO-141FD also has hand inspected and certified parts, and is 2.5 inches thick. To keep cost low on the flagship PRO-141FD that lists for $7,000 ($400 list for table top stand) it does not have any built in tuners, speakers, or audio section, and the table top stand is optional (Adding those features in the original design would have increased the list price to somewhere between $8,000-$10,000). If you get the PRO-141FD you need a surround sound system or sound bar, plus a external tuner like a Digital Cable box, Satellite receiver, or external ATSC tuner. The $6,500 list price on the PRO-151FD is a better bargain and is for the average consumer since it come with the table top stand, stereo side speakers, and built in tuners.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if the native PAL output on the 141 would look different than the PAL to NTSC converted output on the 151? I guess I'm wondering if native output will look superior to converted output.

I'm heavily leaning toward the 141 right now since I don't need a tuner or speakers. The 141 also has a DVI input for me to hook up my Macintosh G5. IMO, the 141 also has a more elegant look than the 151. If I'm going big I might as well go all the way.

I have used the OPPO BDP-83 in source direct with the Pioneer PRO-141FD and to me the picture quality looked slightly better when playing a PAL region free DVD movie. To by honest I did not spend too much time testing the PAL feature in the OPPO and Pioneer.

The Pioneer KRP-600M and KRP-500M also support PAL and SECAM signals according to page 100 of the instruction manual.

Owner's Manual

The PRO-141FD and PRO-101FD are still a better display but I was amazed to find out the lower cost non Elite KRP series also has worldwide signal support. Pioneer did not mention that feature in the product brochure.

I'm a proud new owner of a KRP-500m and I'm currently 26 hours and 2 minutes into the break-in. I've been letting it run non-stop and will continue to for the next 124 hours. I do check on it every once in a while. Haven't had an issue yet. The DVD is authored to repeat itself without setting the DVD player to do so.

Can't wait to watch some movies on this bad boy, especially Ip Man.

P.S. Words couldn't describe my excitement when the van showed up with my Kuro. I could see it through the back window. They were supposed to arrive between 8 and 10 AM. I woke up at 6:30 AM.

Came all the way to Cali from NY without a scratch on it. Needless to say, I'm a very happy person. =)

Yep! We ran the shootout on my HD site. We can't thank Robert enough. I've been asking him for the video so I can post it to the site. Hopefully I will have it soon.

And If people look hard enough both the 141 and the 151 can be had for around 3900.00 bucks. (I just got the Pro 151 for 3900.00) It's a steal at that price. Best Buy is also selling the 141 for 3999.00

I hear alot of people say that the 500M is the best display. I thought that the 101fd was atleast on-par with it...
What makes the 500M a step above the 101fd?

I heard the 101 and the 500M are pretty much equal. I wouldn't sweat it, you have an awesome set regardless

Blu, as of right now the 101 and the 500M are the same in PQ. But the 101 has all the toys on it. So be VERY happy with that set and enjoy it. Stop reading all the comparisons until you are ready to buy a new set. It will drive you mad.

well, not that I am upset about it, I was just wondering if it was true or not. All the research I did before my purchase indicated they were the same in PQ (slightly better than the 111/151fd)
Thanks for the confirmation guys

I dont remember where i found the info at but i do rememeber reading that officially the LASt sets pioneer made were the 500m's and they were using the latest cicuits boards and glass etc that wouldve been implemented on the next 10g kuro line but as we all know pio stopped making sets altogether ive never seen em 1st hand but ive read some people post that have a 151 and a 500m say the 500m is better is it true? Or is it jus peoples piece of mind cause they know its the latest tech?

IMHO, it's just because of the price and not because it's better.

I think that the consesus is the following

5020/6020 < 111FD/151FD < 101FD/141FD = 500M/600M

both the 500M & 101FD have the '10g Kuro' technology
Im not sure if both are hand selected glass, but Im pretty sure that the 101/141 do.

When I bought my 101FD here in Canada, I think it was marked cheaper than the 500M!
Either that, or they didnt have the 500M in stock, cause I def. would have went with the 500M if it was cheaper
