The prologue is good in my opinion, but it has issues. The narrator mispronounces several words including Sardaukar and Kaitain. Also, he says 10,192 when the year is actually 10,191.

I actually have considered making the ideal cut, which is somewhere between the theatrical and extended cut. It's definitely possible since I have the OOP DE set. Not only does that set have the extended cut, but it has a higher bitrate of the theatrical cut using the same master as the US disc so it has a bit more detail.

Right, if I did my own cut it would not include the flipped shots, Fremen without blue within blue eyes, and some recycled shots.

The Third Stage Edition is a better version as it fixes the blue eyes from the extended cut etc. adigitalman's version was great when it first came out, but this supersedes it. There's a spicediver edit as well but haven't seen it.

Where else on internet will I get this type of uber Dune geekiness?!?

Frankly, I think the prologue would be welcome because the movie itself has very steep learning curve. The politics/religion/heredity started coming together into a cohesive picture after about 5 watches (1st time was in the theatre and I was lost)…

I am slow to learn but learning nonetheless...

The film is an unfinished gem, but a gem nonetheless. The real treasure is Herbert's novel. I'm already getting hyped up for the new film.

I would start with the theatrical cut. Then watch the extended cut. If this is your first time watching it make sure you pause it if a distraction arises.
