II seems to get a lot of slack but I remember it being my favorite out of the films. It was this weird mash up of horror,thriller,sci-fi, & a western all in one! Last edited by hYPE; 04-12-2017 at 11:35 PM. |

Honestly House II has all the fun sci-fi elements that I really enjoyed about the end of My Science Project. I've always loved it despite its flaws.

Arrow eventually released the first Hellraiser on its own in the UK so there's a chance. When the limited edition sets sell out.

What is your favourite Roger Cobb novel? Mine would have to be 'Blood Dance'. I have a signed first edition.

I finished watching the complete set last night and I have to say that the original House sure hasn't aged well. It was a pretty bad film imo. House II on the other hand was quite enjoyable and I see myself watching it again in the near future. House III was decent but the 4th one was the worst of all.

I wasn't planning on buying this set, but upon hearing that 3 and 4 are region free, I decided to import the UK set. I've got 1 & 2 on DVD and I haven't watched them in a long time but the temptation of a complete set was enough of a reason to upgrade those two as well.
I've never actually seen 3 & 4 but enjoy 1 & 2 quite a bit from what I remember, I believe I actually liked 2 better and thought it didn't deserve the hate it got because it was lighter in tone. |

House III isn't too bad. It features some decent gore, courtesy of KNB, and stars the late, Brion James.

Received the full 4 film House collection about a week ago from the UK and finally sat down to watch the first film yesterday. The last time I saw it was probably around 1989/1990 on the USA Network's Captain USA Groovy Movie in NY so this set might as well have been a blind buy.
I actually enjoyed the film. Had a lot of fun with it. It isn't great, no, but it's amusing enough and like stepping into a time machine and going back to 1986 to simpler times (Wendt and Moll's appearances help with this). The making of documentary is excellent as well. As for the framing issues, I can see why there has been so much back and forth about them. MOST of the time, the film looks framed correctly but there are a few instances where you think to yourself the filmmakers couldn't possibly have set up this shot this way. That doesn't mean they didn't, of course. I'll throw House II on in a couple weeks and go from there. Btw, don't understand the hate I've seen for House III. I think that one is just as much fun as the first, though it IS more of a standard '80s slasher flick. I bought The Horror Show titled version from Scream Factory about a year or so ago and thoroughly enjoyed it on that level. I suppose IV, the only one I haven't seen, is where things get really rough. |

It is Cobb's masterpiece imho. If you like occult themed horror novels, I'd recommend to give it a read, though it is long out of print and very hard to come by these days. I was lucky enough to get it from one of Cobb's signings circa 1985.

Except these aren't sci-fi flicks. Usually, a producer will change direction with a 3rd or 4th entry in a series but they chose to go a different route right after the first one, which was the first mistake. The second mistake was not continuing the first film's storyline. I'm not saying House II is a bad film - it's just not a HOUSE film. To me there's really only one House film and that's the original. I like the 4th entry and actually consider it the official sequel.
