I'm doing a complete re-watch of this series in time for the season3 premier. My gosh this show is fantastic. S1 is near-perfect and one of the best television seasons of all-time.
There is something really funky with this set though. As I posted on here over a year-and-a-half ago, the outdoor scenes are very muted, hazy, and dark. Everything looks like it's taking place at sunset, staring off into the setting sun. Details get crushed in the shadows. Everything has an orange-ish hue. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I've tried two different sets of discs and both had the same issue. (you can see my posts from a few pages back.) The blu-rays also look completely fine and much more naturally colored. But I've also determined that the issue only seems to exist, or be very pronounced, on the first UHD disc. Things don't looks so hazy, burnt and lacking definition during the daytime scenes on disc 2 or 3. Something is definitely up with this disc 1. In any case, I'm loving my re-watch of Westworld. The show looks fantastic in UHD with Dolby Vision once you get past the first couple episodes. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that we get such incredible, high production value television shows these days. This is science fiction at its finest. ![]() I hope that HBO continues to release more of its top-tier shows on 4K, but things are looking pretty grim. I wish that more people went out and bought Westworld. |

The first episode was the pilot and was of differing or probably worse quality than the rest of the show, and little bits from that first episode are used in the episodes after.
But this was their first HDR grade and they may have found their footing on the first few episodes and/or the SDR presentation may have been able to “hide” any lower quality. I haven’t watched the UHDs in a while and absolutely have never watched the Blu-rays. |

That there are UHD releases that are only slightly advantageous over the SD is something we're learned to expect; but after paying a premium for UHD TV set, player, and media, there's no good excuse for the SD looking more natural. Natural to me means not just more resolution, but better dynamic range and color depth. There are the older titles with low-end FX that perhaps would be best viewing on SD so as not to show their flaws. Westworld is not one of those. Chris |

That version of Sweet Child of Mine!
![]() This looks like it could be the best season yet. I've always loved futuristic sci-fi. This has a fantastic storyline to go with it! I can't wait! Also, if they're shooting this in native 4K HDR, I can't wait for the UHD already! |

Ok, I am not too proud to admit that much of season 2 was very confusing to me. Especially the Bernard stuff. The timeline seemed to jump around and sometimes he wasn't himself. Sometimes he was. I was really confused by it all. Is there a good resource out there that explains what's going on episode by episode? I would like to rewatch season 2 in preparation for season 3, but feel like I need a guide to help me through it.
I am off to search YouTube now. |

I don't get how some people can watch an entire season in multiple versions. If you're planning to watch season 3 on UHD why watch the show in poor quality HBO presentation?
It's like with movies and how some folks watch the big screen release, then the DVD when it comes out, then the bluray, and then the UHD. |

For the record I think the quality of S2 on UHD was excellent.

I just got done with my season1 re-watch. Wowsers! One of the best television seasons of all-time. The color issues seemed to clear up past the first disc too. Really happy to have this show in UHD. I'm going to re-watch S2 later this week after a short break.

I'm not a massive TV show watcher (there's a lot of highly rated shows I haven't seen) but season 1 of Westworld is one of my favourite seasons of anything I've ever seen. The acting, set design, story, music, (all of it really) are amazingly engaging to watch.
Season 2 was a little harder to fully understand on first viewing, I agree. I recently watched it for a second time though and it was much easier to follow and establish what scene was in what time period. Very much looking forward to season 3 next month. |

No. I am going to watch it on HBO NOW streaming. 😲 Is it compressed 1080p? Yep. Will I be waiting for a full series UHD release to purchase it on any disc format? Yep. Is it a sure-purchase? Nope. It all depends on how HBO handles the ending of this show. I am certainly not going to reward bad story telling if the ending sucks or they cancel the show. HBO has been known to do things like that.

Too bad HBO Max won't be out before season 3 airs. Sounds like there's a chance some HBO stuff will finally be streaming in UHD.
