I got UHD and when one didn't work, I slapped in the BD to finish the season (it took a few weeks to get a replacement disc). There was a significant difference, the UHD being far superior to the BD, regardless of the earlier complains re: DNR.

Season 2 doesn't come out until 12/4, so there will be no BF deals on that, unless it's for a pre-order.

Yeah at that price I’ll pick it up. Both seasons will be gifts anyway. I’ve never seen them.

I think the show looks how it looks, processing wise. The UHD just makes it more obvious. The HDR is really nice, adds a lot to the show. The color is warmer and more orangey, which some like and some don't. Detail is basically the same to my eye, and the show can often look pretty soft, depending on where it's at and what it's doing.

I think the HDR is worth it.

Another vote for UHD from me.

I wonder if season 2 will be identical to season 1 in terms of overall UHD quality

Checked out my copy last night - watched the first 20 minutes or so of the first episode (I'm rewatching the 1st season in UHD so I didn't want to watch too much) and I was very impressed with the picture quality.

Obviously I'd have to watch a lot more to be sure but my impression was that it was better than season 1 - e.g. a little less digital noise in the picture.

Which season?

And if S1, with or without the red metal box?

I was thinking of placing all the UHD discs from season 1 and 2 inside the red tin box

Never mind my last reply re: which season. I see now there's another thread for S2.

The S1 red tin is about 25mm, but the standard amaray blu-ray case (with art) inside is 15mm (you can chose to discard the red tin).

For completeness, the S2 case is non-standard and is about 37mm (no std amaray case inside).

$25.99 CAD for the first season, at Amazon Canada. Seems like a good price.

Has anybody tried redeeming the digital copy for this set this year? I was thinking of buying the code off somebody but the expiration date on the slip was December last year. I don’t know how strict hbo compared to movie studios where codes from 5, 6 years ago still work. Thanks.

The wife and I really enjoyed season 1. First time watching. I really liked the PQ, the warm greyscale looked very nice, yes there is some odd anomaly’s but overall I’m pleased. The AQ sounded fantastic. Starting season 2 later.

S2 looks much better than S1 so you should be pleased.
