German boxset comes with a blue keepcase instead of black. You can email Universal Germany for a black keepcase. Also the inlay banner features "Blu-ray" which is not the case. No word on a possible replacement there. LotR could be affected as well.

Just received the German set too. It's as barebone a release as it can go, but I wasn't thrilled to pay double just for steelbooks that end up on the shelf anyway.
The blue instead of black keepcase is no bother, as there is a slipcase anyway so it won't even be visible when it's on the shelf. Luckily it's a sturdy keepcase, and not the flimsy eco cases I see a lot. I might wait to watch the movies until the end of the year (I have the week off) and I can watch a movie every day with the LotR trilogy that will probably arrive next week. |

Sorry to continue the thread hijack, but were you ever able to share a review of the Rings tril before that thread got nuked (I would've enjoyed the read but tuned out of that thread, peeps getting too emotional and pissy).
edit: oops, dude above beat me to the same question! |

I watched FOTR last night, REALLY enjoyed it though I'm not blind to its faults. Haven't written anything up yet, though when it's ready I might aks the mods if they can open it to put my review in then close it again.

I've got to respect it. You guys are really exhausting the options of where we can talk about the LOTRs releases
![]() When this thread is shut where next? The DNR thread? To stay on topic, I'm going to start on this trilogy tonight. Going for the extended editions, which people seem to think are better, so hopefully I'll come out with a more positive view of these films which I've previously found a bit middling. |

I mean, no matter toxic the discourse gets on the subject, it is some of the most beloved films of all time, one of which ties the record for most Oscars won by a film, being released on the highest quality format possible on a Home Video enthusiast forum. It’s gonna be talked about somewhere.

I know this is the hobbit thread, but something cool in The Two Towers is that when Gandalf is using his magic, most noticeably when he frees Théoden from Saruman’s spell, he actually seems to get brighter and almost seems to glow. It’s such a subtle detail but I love it, and I can’t recall noticing it on any other version of the film.

On the 4K transfer, the face just looked solid white the entire time and couldn’t make anything out. Was it just me, or am I misremembering? Cheers! |

I recall his voice being mixed in, but not his face.

Disappointing what happened in the LOTR thread but hopefully that doesn’t spread here.
While the actual films may not be to the standard as some had hoped The Hobbit 4K transfers and atmos mixes are among the best I have seen and heard. It would be a shame for that discussion to get lost amongst a LOTR crap fight. |
