Why ban him. Because he doesn't like Blu-ray???!!!! Fine no skin off my back. Let him have his OWN opinions. The only trouble that has been caused is by the people throwing him under a bridge because they are scared about actually explaining why they like blu-ray. blurip may disagree with us (and me!) but we shouldn't ban him yet. Just because he doesn't agree with you doesn't make wrong. Grow up. Learn how to have an intelligent discussion.

if anything, I would want Blu-ray because I can already get pirated HD DVD movies if I really wanted them without supporting the inferior format...

not saying that I would do that...but the fact that it's possible, it makes my decision even easier..

this isn't necessarily an open forum to support several formats...

this is a Blu-ray/PS3 site...

I wouldn't go to the HD DVD site trying to support BD, would I?......

...the answer is no...

the name of this site is named this for a reason....it's not HD-movies.com ....it's blu-ray.com ..

Nothing wrong with an opinion, but it sounds like he'd wants to pirate Blu-ray dvd. Sure he has excuses as why he backs them up on his computer.bla bla bla. Just my opinion...

Who gives a shit? Like we need an explanation from every person who doesn't support Blu-ray for whatever stupid reason.

As you can see blurip is not into useing things the way they are meant to be used. He is exploiting and taking advantage of what he can. The HD-DVD add-on for 360 is not meant to be a HD-DVD player without the 360. He has the hacks and software to use the add-on with his computer. Same with HD-DVD media. It is not meant to be copied or backed up, but someone found a crack and blurip is taking advantage of it.

This is (probably) true, as long as you just back up the disc (duplication), and don't remove the protection. The DMCA forbids Americans from removing the protection.

But, duplication is not possible with Blu-ray because the AACS implies the mandatory presence of ROM-Mark.

I think it is a valid point to consider. I own several hundred DVDs and about 100 BD/HD-DVDs, and none are copies. Nothing ticks me off more than someone borrowing a DVD, and then finding out they burned a copy to keep.

However, there have been many times that I made a copy of a DVD - though not for backup. If I am traveling, I will copy several movies (either to disc or HDD) so I don't have to worry about the originals getting lost. And what about copying a movies to your ipod? What if you own the movie on BD, but are taking a trip and don't have a BD drive on your laptop? And what about copying them to a server? The prices of HDD have be dropping a lot, and a 1T HDD can be picked up for a few hundred $$. What do you think a 1T drive will cost in 5 yrs? Cheap.

The point is there are many reasons one might want to copy a movie that they purchased and own - and it sucks that we are losing the ability to do so.

How so? Since it has always required software programs that bypass the copy protection - and those programs have always been updated along the way .. so the only argument left is when or if that will happen for BD+...except ...

I'll bet a gazillion dollars blurip didn't wait until AACS had been broken before buying his 360 or HD-DVD add-on or if it HADN'T been broken it would have stopped him from buying them.

I raise my own ante to a bazillion instead

This kid's a joke. Total troll. He can't afford $20 movies with his allowance so he pirates. Can't blame him really.... but you can for trolling.

He's like those thieves who robbed all of Target's Blu-ray; at least he knows quality when he sees it.

Some people like to be able to make copies and shrink them so they can put several movies on a single disc using the Divx/Xvid codec. I know a few people who do this and no, they don't upload them to the internet. It's illegal to break through the encryption layer that protects the files, but it's not illegal to extract the movie from a VHS, DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray Disc, LaserDisc or any format.
