![]() Extrapolation was John Mclaughlin's first solo album, and one of the very first albums that he played on. It's a little more traditional jazz than some of his later fusion stuff. It's very good hangover music: smooth, and easy on the ears, with more of that muted jazz guitar tone, instead of his Hendrix-esque screaming banshee tone. ![]() Thanks for stopping by guys. I'ma go geta coffee & biscuit! ![]() |

That is a nice HT room you have set up, with a nice comfy-looking couch. It looks like your planning is paying off. I also like that lion carpet (I'm a lion's fan, even though I don't live near Detroit). BTW, check out the new 80" Sharp I got last week in my HT gallery; my 70" Sony finally bit the dust.

![]() Thank you. The couch is okay, but I would like to get something a little bigger and even more comfy. The lion rug actually came with the house I rent, but it seems to go well in the HT room. My cellphone camera doesn't really do my room justice, and makes everything look dull and yellow/green, but I would rather put my money into my setup, instead of a camera, but maybe someday. Your new tv is huge! And your front towers are massive also. What are they? That tv and those speakers make you look like a little guy. How tall are you, for some scale? Looking good, my friend. ![]() |

![]() Yes, they finally got them to me. ![]() They are a lot bigger than I expected for bookshelves, especially the depth(11 1/2 inches from the back to the grille) and they are heavy, and built like a tank. ![]() ![]() Without further ado, my HTD bookshelf striptease: [Show spoiler]

I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!!!
![]() Right now, I'm going to switch out just one of my Polk fronts with the HTD, and listen to some music on 2ch. direct, just to compare the two. I'll probably try some jazz, classical, and some NIN and Deftones. ![]() |

![]() Yeah, I went from a 42" Panny plasma to the 127" projected image, and it's just overwhelming, in a good way. It's almost like being at the movie theater, and in some aspects, it's even better. ![]() Quote:
I listened to the first few songs from Deftones - Diamond Eyes, and as far as the top end goes, the Polks are very harsh, and 'splattery' sounding, if that makes any sense, compared to the HTDs. The HTDs almost seem to breathe, and the cymbals really sizzle. Basically, the Polks sound more like I'm listening to a speaker, whereas the HTDs soundmore lifelike, like someone is playing in the room. The bottom end is much cleaner, and tighter on the HTDs. The Polks have a little more heft, but are also a whole lot more boomy and muddy. I would imagine that the HTDs will sound even better, once the spiders loosen up a bit. ![]() [Show spoiler] As far as midrange, the Polks seem more scooped out, and the HTDs have a lot more presence. So far the words clean, tight, and transparent come to mind, compared to the Polks. ![]() |

Great to hear the music and not the speakers. When I got my baby B&W bookshelves, I was surprised that the music was right in front of me, didn't come from the right speaker or the left, but sounded like it was coming from the center! which was off, it was like magic. ![]() |

Thanks everybody, and HTG:
[Show spoiler] Anyway, I listened to some Deftones, Gustav Holst, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steely Dan, and Stanley Clarke, all 2ch direct. After being so accustomed to the Polks, it took me a while to really process what the difference is, and the main thing is the soundstage and dimensionality. Compared to what I'm used to, the instruments seem more defined, with their own space in the room. I temporarily put them on some chairs: [Show spoiler] This really pissed me off as soon as I stepped back and looked at it, so I looked everywhere through my house for two equal sized things to put them on, and the only thing I could find was some paint cans. ![]() ![]() [Show spoiler] It looks a lot better than the chairs, but I gotta do something more permanent soon. ![]() |
