supposedly Cinemark's XD: 'Extreme Digital' equipped auditoriums also featured the movie in 1.78

I'm confused why would banding occur? - is the screen 1.78 to begin with or more box like (1.44), like an IMAX screen. I really really have to make the trek out to the Cinemark Egyptian 24 theatre to see (and hear) this for myself.

I don't think he knows what banding is.

YES I DO KNOW WHAT BANDING IS and it was 1:85.1 in the xd theater reason for the banding is the screen is 70 feet wide

Shouldn't have it been in 1.78:1. Banding is caused by compression, if there is no compression there is no banding (unless native to the source itself, which at no time did I notice any on my eight viewings). Given that you saw it projected on a 70 foot screen I would assume they had 2k lossless video, which would mean no banding.

An example of banding is below:

Just to clarify, what do you think banding is?

To keep this thread on track, I just preordered the Avatar UK steelbook blu.

Jim Cameron answers the big question:

WHY is the home release of AVATAR 1.78:1?

Good thing.

With that longer hair, if it were red he would look exactly like David Caruso.

He's also smug enough to be Horatio

First of all, James Cameron hates trailers, woohoo!

http://gizmodo.com/5500433/james-cam...n-his-dvds-too

Secondly, been watching a BD screener recently...feature is about 45GB of the disc...looks.....AMAZING! I never saw the 3d version though. given the little space reserved for warning cards and logos and such, I would pretty much agree with the "superbit" label.

"I have a deal with Fox that anytime my movies make over a billion dollars I can leave the crap trailers off"

I'm sure they wouldn't put up much of a fight on anything he demanded at this point.

I like sopme trailers IF they are ones you can select in the special features menu and do not always play when you load up the film (which I loathe).

What I really hate are the movies that make you load everything and THEN ask if you want to resume your movie from the last point you had it at. I hope Avatar doesn't do that!

There's a video for that as well, all of them courtesy Home Theater Forum:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iURoCqwGnQE

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is but one reason why Jim Cameron is f*cking awesome.
