Jump scares are part of the horror genre, even classic films like Psycho and The Exorcist used it. The only problem is when a movie relies its entire scare factor on it.
My big concern is that Andy Muschietti did exactly that in his first feature film 'Mama'. The movie was heavily criticised because of it (and the use of bad CGI), so let's hope he learned his lesson and didn't make the same mistake again.

Splitting it into two parts might help, and hopefully each part has a healthy runtime. So I'd imagine together it's going to be over an hour longer than the miniseries.

One of the producers shared a shorter version of the trailer on Instagram. What's interesting is that, as well as opening with an exclusive shot (Bill lying in bed next to a drawn picture of Bev), it appears to be a red band trailer. There's a decapitated head - presumably Victor's - as Eddie splashes about in the sewer, and the blood that bursts out of Bev's bathroom sink is clearly red.

I think Tim Curry's Pennywise is terrifying and always will be. When I first heard of the remake I thought they can't beat Curry. I think you maybe right though. This new one not only looks bad ass, it looks fxcking epic.

Having read the draft from early last year, I think I know the context of this particular scene.

I highly doubt that it will beat Curry. The greatness of Currys adaptation was that of having humor in the role. If this Pennywise is just scary then it fails. He has to have the personality of a silly clown before he turns evil.

This more than anything. You could almost have been Tim Curry's friend in the original. This one looks to just be about scares the whole time.

I liked the combo of laughs and scares from the original but hope for more terror than humor from this remake. Just please don't accidentally film the camera/trolley shadow in the sewer scene in this one. That took me right out of the movie.

I appreciate the silly humor of the original as well, and it did scare the bjesus out of me when I was a kid. But for this remake, the more terror, the more darkness, and the more evil, the better. This is exactly why I prefer Evil Dead over The Evil Dead.
