Actually, if one has pictures of the packaging, that would help too.

I'm curious.

Just to clarify for you even if the mix was encoded with DTS HD-MA instead of Dolby TrueHD it would of sounded the same. Both are lossless formats which produce an exact replica of the original LPCM mix.

That did occur to me, like if there are ever two characters on screen, JJ Abrams will deliberately focus on one at the expense of the other. I just chalked it up to that.

Great movie though, and it does make for an excellent blu-ray.

Watched Star Trek Last night (AUSTRALIAN BLU-RAY RELEASE).
PQ is close to Reference 4.75/5
AQ is perfect, 5/5
I was almost blown out of my chair when Spok hit light speed in the final act.
The bass was Monstrous.

I am seriously expecting to be blown away by the audio on this BD. Personally, this film has been the best audio i've ever experienced in a digital theater. It was amazing, I know the BD will be equally amazing!

Great story to boot!!

Here you go, pictures are from my epson tw-3000 projected image is around 120"" for the area containing the image, also note: image is much better in reality but alas my camera skills are lacking.

Do we have any sort of confirmation for this? I don't see anything about it on Wal-Mart's website anymore.

It is a 3 discs edition, Disc One is the movie, Disc two is the special features, and the third disc is a Digital Copy of the movie. No Dvd copy that I am aware off.

I kind of misunderstood what was being asked, but there was some talk on here at one time about it. I assume that there is no exclusive release for this then.

Walmart originally had it listed as having a DVD copy included, but has since removed all mention of it.

No idea what the status is of that, I was counting on the DVD including exclusive to "pair buy" the movie with a friend of mine.

Edit: In fact, since they altered the online listing to remove mention of the DVD exclusive they've not fixed their product description and still show it as EVERYTHING being on Disc 1 and the digital copy being Disc 2.

Personally for me, I rather have a DVD than a digital copy of the same movie.

For example if they market Star Trek as a 3 discs, give me a blu ray , a DVD and the special features and I'll be happy.

I'm guessing there is no exclusive since they removed the page for it off their website. I would have gotten it with the DVD as well, but it does save me a trip to Wal-Mart...

I'm actually a little dissapointed by the picture quality on this release and it is nothing to do with the print.

JJ Abrams excessive use of lens flare and digitally added "camera sludge" (according to the extra features that is the official terminology) show up far to well on the blu-ray to the point where they are distracting. And some of the artifically added artifacts actually end up looking like compression artifacts at times.

During the scene where Amanda is fixing Spocks collar prior to him going before the elders for his admission to the science acadamy, there is what look to be a compression artifact in the form of a blue and red line that pops up for less than one second. It just jumps out and looks like a print problem. Reviewing the paused footage of the apparent artifact it has the characteristics of an optical light effect, in other words it was a deliberate addition but it is less than a second so looks like a print error.

Small examples like this show up from time to time and ruin what would have been a magnificent print to my eyes. The fault is entirely on JJ and his artistic choices. I love the addition of things that add to realism, but this has gone to far and ruined what I hoped would be a great experience. It doesn't look real, it looks artificial. It just went to far.

Issues with the picture aside, I can't fault the audio. It is top notch. And the extra features are fantastic. There's probably around 3 hours worth and the documentaries (complete with branching featurettes) are fascinating.

I loved this film. It would have been the perfect blu-ray for me if it were for how annoying the deliberate artifacts are.
