A complete series set does appeal to me but the pricing would be outrageous. These sets are listing at $100 each so you could expect a $400 list price for a complete set at least, that would still be $100 less than SRP on the individual releases, and I wouldn't count on that, they could just as easily slap a $500 list price on it.

Even with retailer discounts you'd be lucky to get a complete series set for $300 and buying these things individually at $60-70 over the course of 8 months is just a lot easier to pull off.

Furthermore, Image didn't release their complete DVD set on the same day as their Definitive season 5 release. It actually came like 9 or 10 months later.

The whole "complete series" issue would be moot anyway if Image would just offer an order form for a box for all 5 seasons in the Season 5 case but unfortunately I can think of about 3 times when studios have done this.
I read your post above and laughed out loud (for real). I pictured you standing in front of a mirror trying to convince yourself to buy the seasons one at time. I can understand wanting it fast. I don't think though that the complete set eventually will list for $300-400. It will be much less. Not even the Sopranos set is $300 and that's 30 discs. Video is cheaper all the time. Remember when any new release VHS movie listed for $79.99 or higher? Then they listed at $49.99, then $29.99. You get the idea. I'll wait for the set. 5 x $60 is $300 anyway.

You're comparing a dvd set to a blu-ray set. That's as close to "apples to oranges" as one can get.

I thought the DVD Box Set releases looked really nice when they were releases season by season (which is what I owned - since then shipped them to my cousin) I don't think the BD cases releases will look near as cool as what the DVD ones did.

That being said I had a co-worker last year order the complete ZONE set and I really hated the way they packaged the set. I was happy with having bought them one season at a time. Mind you I didn't pay over 50.00 or so a set when I bought mine except Season 1 which was about 119.99 becase it came with the book.

I will be buying these Season by Season, I really don't feel like waiting a couple years for a complete series set. I know it could be cheaper but I am too impatient.

Just wish we could see the finished packaging... I am hoping for somehting more impressive looking than just a BD style case much like THE PRISONER. It would be nice if it came in a cool slipbox where the case slides in from the side.. like a KINO BD release style... but top to bottom is ok. Side to side is a lot nicer.

actually, no i was making a point on pricing not format. the point being that sets bought after the single seasons have been released have been historically cheaper than the individual seasons

when I mentioned sopranos it was to say the sopranos single season dvds cost more individually than the dvd set cost

and i'll wager anything the twilight zone blu-ray single seasons will cost more then the complete blu-ray set in the future

sopranos dvd single seasons price to sopranos dvd set price is comparing apples to apples

twilight zone blu-ray single seasons price to twilight zone blu-ray set price is comparing oranges to oranges

sorry you took it to be comparing apples to oranges

although sopranos seasons are out on blu-ray

While you're betting on a sure thing, it's doubtful they will cost terribly much more. And the benefit of buying it as it comes out is to help ensure all seasons get released (there is literally no guarantee that if season 1 and 2 sell at a loss for what it cost to make, they will continue to release the rest in a timely fashion), as well as being able to actually enjoy the show when it's out. I swear, it's bizarre how I read about so many people that spend thousands on a great HDTV and home theater system, quite a bit of money on good blu-ray players, and then deprive themselves of actually ENJOYING something they absolutely want in the name of saving a few dollars over the course of a year. It just seems odd to me how many penny-pinchers got themselves into a premium format.

Oh I really want to order these! I picked up the definitve collection on DVD last year for just under $100 shipped.

I'm considering unloading that set on Amazon, but they are only offering $55 right now....hmmm.....

Decided to preorder season one from Amazon since it was in my Gold Box today for $66.97. Guess I better send off my Definitive DVD set.

The review sounds great! He makes an small error though -- he refers to Rod Serling as the "on-camera host". Not in the first season! Strictly voice-overs the first year, except for the "coming next week" teasers. He made his first in-show appearance in a jokey cameo at the end of the last show of the season, "A World Of His Own", where Keenan Wynn makes him disappear.

Yes, it's a good review, but it's strange he would make that mistake. Sounds like the PQ and AQ are definite upgrades over the complete DVD set that I have that picked up for an amazing $99 from amazon a few years ago... Wonder how low the price will go by release day. I'm hoping for $50, but that may be optimistic.

Wow, easily entertained much? I bet you're a "Family Guy" fan.

I actually don't want it fast, I just don't want to wait on something that isn't really worth waiting for. I actually have the 5-season DVD box set (as I mentioned earlier) and I haven't even finished season 2. I find the anthology aspect of the show (integral as it is in this case, I mean it is what it is) makes it hard for me to burn through the show on home video in the way that a serialized drama might.

Speaking of that unfinished DVD box set, buying and watching the seasons individually on a bi-monthly basis is also far less-overwhelming and manageable than watching the DVD's. I could see myself wanting to finish each season before the next was released which might actually result in me watching the entire series.

The fatal flaw of your post and your ridiculous reaction is that you apparently don't recognize that practically nobody pays list price. These Blu-ray releases are listing at $100 each but can be found at $55-75. When I say that a complete series box would list for at least $400 I say that knowing that Amazon.com would probably have it for $250-300.

Individually these seasons are on the pricey side and as such there's absolutely no way in hell a complete series box wouldn't be comparably pricey. If you actually go into my post detailing the pricing you'll see that I even went so far as to speculate they may knock $100 off the list of such a box, but even if the box included all 5 seasons for the price of 4 it would still be a pretty big purchase.

Also, for what its worth, the complete-series DVD box set was a substantial downgrade in the packaging department and in hindsight I should have bought the original seasons, especially since the first run of Season 1 had an updated version of "The Twilight Zone Companion" included that has yet to be released on its own as far as I know.

We just had a baby recently, so it's going to be difficult for me to swing these by the wife as a valid purchase, considering we already own the Complete Definitive Collection. I think it wouldn't matter, normally, but there's a LOT of great stuff coming out between now and Christmas... such as the Back to the Future Trilogy, as well as Deadwood: The Complete Series, and the Alien boxed set. If I get the chance, I'll buy these... but unfortunately they're not at the top of my list despite being one of my favorite shows of all time. I'm watching through season 5 on DVD as we speak, and I would like to watch through some of the other TV-on-DVD boxed sets I never got around to before watching TZ again.

I love these reviews! This whole show is going to rock on blu!

Hopefully sales will be good enough to show other companies how to do it by releasing all seasons in a timely manner (looking at you HBO and Fox), with lossless options (Warner needs to jump on that) for decent prices. I love that season 2 was announced for just 2 months later. Hopefully we have the whole series before the end of 2011. HBO still hasn't even announced Sopranos season 2, and Fox just releases stuff randomly like prison break 1, 3, and the finale. Which is completely worthless.

Hi there, Chris Chiarella here. Wanted to thank everyone who took time to read (and/or link to, or even compliment) my Twilight Zone S1 BD review, and offer my extra thanks to charlieray1 for catching my mistake. In poring over the many Blu-ray extras which featured Mr. Serling on camera, and ending my TZ-watching with "A World of His Own," I did indeed err in my recollection of his on-camera appearances, which did not become a TZ trademark until later in its run.
I've been talking up the Blu-ray set all weekend tho, the extensive bonus materials, the audio and most of all the remastered video. I can only guess as to Image Entertainment's plans for some future complete series set, but for now this single season is highly recommended.
Hope you all wind up enjoying it as much as I did,
CC
