Ha-ha!! I'm not sure that you quite do, because I didn't say the performance was greater than the story. What I said about Reynolds' performance was in the context of re-watchability — the strength of his performance still offers value, even if the story no longer offers any surprises.

I get what you say about Dallas Buyers Club — the movie did nothing for me, either. (Like Philadelphia, it was an AIDS movie aimed squarely at straight people who wanted to pretend some sense of kinship with the issue.) But neither did McConaughey's performance, to be frank — he was fine, I suppose, but he was just McConaughey. A very scary-looking Matthew McConaughey. It was Leto who really impressed me, but I still didn't get anything from the movie.

I still prefer movie over performance.
Yep, same here. I didn't actually say otherwise.

I found this too, yet the reviews say the blacks are good.

What gives?

…and here's another 'the blacks are not black' post.

That's three of us (including me) who found this.

Was this title reissued with correct black levels? Something fishy is going on here…there's no way a reviewer could see this disc and say the blacks are anywhere near good.

Can anyone help figure this out?

Hate to revive a dead thread but I just recently bought this used and I am also having the grayed blacks. Anyone know what the deal is?

Every edition seems to have 5.1 mix except this one which is 7.1.
What is the original mix for this movie? 5.1 or 7.1?

I’ve never been a fan of Ryan Reynolds. He carries himself with a smug veneer of being above it all, a shitter without a scent, that rubs me all the wrong ways. But credit where credit is due—I just watched BURIED, a film that brings a very primal, elemental horror vividly to life, for the first time after years of it collecting blind buy dust on my shelf and, damn, he acted his ass off! Surrounded by air, I feel like I can hardly breathe.
