Quite frankly, I couldn't imagine not owning both cuts.

I totally forgot that they took out the REDRUM scene. Yeah there’s no way the EU cut is better.

American cut is what I saw, and the version I grew up and will continue to watch. Maybe the Europe release will have the shorter cut.

All I want is to finally see the original ending. I don’t even care if they make a cut in which it’s incorporated into the movie. Just let me see it.

You'll need a time machine for that.

Quite frankly, I couldn’t imagine watching The Shining with those scenes cut out. Wouldn’t feel the same.
Agree. Almost all those scenes are for character development.

Don’t talk like that!!!!!!

Why do you want to crush my little hopes and dreams. It can happen. I’m sure there’s at least one that survived somewhere. I don’t buy they all got destroyed. You know his wife is holding onto all of that.

I'm sure this will spark some debate but I'd love to see multiple aspect ratios. Because I like options. I always find open matte/alternate aspect ratios interesting to see, even if only once.

Is there any chance they would give us the EU cut but not the US cut? That would be...a shame. I can't imagine them doing that, but there's always that chance.

Still gonna need a time machine. Warners have apparently had the trims from 2001 (when Kubrick cut it down some after the disastrous early screenings) in their possession for all this time as well, and we're no closer to seeing them released because SK expressly forbade it. When a screening of The Shinning was mooted to be of a vintage print that contained the original ending it got shut down real quick IIRC. As long as there are people willing to honour his wishes then this stuff will never see the light of day.

I think I've only seen the US cut so that's all I really need. As for the AR, I'd be fine with them including Academy or 1.66:1 or whatever it is, but A) it's not necessary and B) they won't anyway.

Correct. I got a bloody big shock when I saw the Blu-ray for the first time, never having seen the longer US cut before, I was thrilled to see the ‘new’ footage - a sizeable chunk, too (about 28min?).

As the running time listed on the Blu-ray packaging was about 144 mins - same as the incorrectly listed running time for the shorter European cut, I didn’t suspect the Blu-ray would be any different in length.

I just imagine people looking for the missing footage from Kubrick movies as Geraldo Rivera opening Capone’s vult.

I don’t think it’ll happen.

The 50th anniversary for 2001: A Space Odyssey passed without any deleted material being released.

Seen the US cut once I think a long time ago and only own the EU cut of the film. I'd absolutely be up for this if it happens. Should be time to finally own the other cut!

I know Kubrick didn't want his deleted material to be released and I truly respect that, but with both this and 2001, I'm unsure if I agree on that stance since both were originally released/premiered with more that footage and cut after the fact. But oh well, can't have it all I guess.

I love both cuts, but have grown up with the Euro version and only saw the US version for the first time about 12 years ago. Im sure many people on here would pay the price for fancy editions with two separate 4K discs for this.

I don't know if it's a the-grass-is-always-greener kinda deal, but I exclusively watched the shorter cut for years before finally seeing the longer version, and I instantly preferred the latter upon watching it. It rectified the minor faults I had with the shorter cut.

Hasn't Vivian Kubrick gone cray-cray?

As for the original ending, I believe the Kubrick estate are keeping a lid on it.

Make no mistake; the shorter cut is a great film.

But the original cut is an arresting masterpiece. Yes, even WITH the skeletons.

There is a *something* missing from those trims and that's no way to watch it imo.
