Opening a new line of credit may cause your credit score to change. $40 is nice, but I'd reccomend only opening the line once you have your "ducks in a row" with no incoming loans on the horizon. It would be the dumbest thing to open credit lines right before buying a house, for example.

Now that I understand, but their comment seems to have to tied the decision to a possible B2G1 sale, which is what confused me. I've only had the RedCard since last year and the bonus discount wasn't instant and arrived with the card in the mail. Just saying, if one was planning to sign up and use that discount, there's a delay in receiving it, so plan accordingly.

I guess I just don't see the $40 offer arriving within the short time frame of a B2G1 announcement (a day or two?) and the week long sale. Just trying to give you a heads up in case that was your plan.

If you really want to do it I would suggest doing it now before you forget over the next two weeks. There won't be another B2G1 free sale will likely not be until mid/late April or mid June based on history.

I only buy media from Target during a sale. I suspect my point keeps getting lost here though. I signed up for a RedCard just as a B2G1 sale was being announced, but the coupon was mailed with the new card and didn't arrive before that sale ended.

Example, with arbitrary sale dates:
Friday 3/4 - Sale is announced, you apply for RedCard
Sunday 3/6 - Sale begins
Saturday 3/12 - Sale ends
Monday 3/14 - You receive the coupon

I understood you. It'd be interesting to see how long it took members of this forum who previously applied during the recent promotion a few months ago to get the card/coupon. 10 days or less?

The post by 'Hariseldon' a couple of months ago (see link below) provides some historical dates for the B2G1 sale. Last year there was a sale the week of March 21-27 and then one in June. The year before the sale was April 5-11. The previous 3 years were all in February. It's anyone's guess when the next one will be.

My experience was applying in hopes of the Oct B2G1 sale and not receiving the card and coupon until Nov.

On Friday I picked this up for $17 and change.

It was on sale for $20 and there was a 15% target circle, plus my 5% off red card. So got 20% off making it a little over $17 after taxes. After selling the code. I basically for it for a little over $11 for a week of release.

Yah the debit card is definitely the smarter of the two options. I've gotten both but never use the credit card. Thankfully there's no annual fee.
