First report of Videodrome biting the dust.

Same member posting on another forum in more detail:

I've found my first problem disc. Over the last week I watched through Walkabout, Ride With The Devil and Thin Red Line with no problems. But tonight my Videodrome disc froze up at the 1:14 mark. It played fine when I first got it a few years ago. I don't see any bronze color in the disc (or any of my discs), but it looks like I've got at least one that needs replacing. If anyone else has this disc, it would be interesting to know if the lockup occurs in the same place. If so, I guess we can determine that is precisely where the layer change occurs.

I just read the message from Criterion on page 3 of this thread with replacement procedures, but it only lists 7 titles. Are they not acknowledging problems with any other discs?

Uncertain players may ignore errors.

Random bad discs have always existed, for every release from every studio. If it's not bronzing, I wouldn't group it with this problem. Was that one even from the Sonopress plant?

I've asked him to provide us with an IFPI number. I have not added Videodrome to the list yet.

FWIW, my 'Videodrome' is a Sony.

BTW, what if this had to do with the plastic cases...wouldn't that stink? Not a theory of mine, but someone in that Hoffman Forums thread mentioned it in regards to DVDs.

I don't believe that's an IFPI code.

If that were true, then all of our BDs would be rotting.

These earliest Criterion BDs came in cardboard cases. Can't remember if these problem ones did though.

No, the ones that are bronzing/peeling were not among the first wave of DigiPaks.

Has anyone found any other studio, besides Criterion, that have used Sonopress at some point in time to replicate discs? I've looked through parts of my collection, to include samples from all the different studios and time frames, and so far it appears Criterion was the only one to use them. A majority of my discs were replicated in a Sony plant.

So incorrectly merged threads aside, those of us who care for the Criterion BD's problem only, can we expect to see further information here from people who sent their discs? or on further information sent from Criterion?

I am interested in knowing what happened if someone decided to send their defective discs that are not in the official list, since i haven't heard from Criterion about my email about those discs.

but i guess it would take some time before people on this thread start receiving their replacements.

Without going thru page after page on this now 'combined' thread, has Well Go USA decided to replace discs that are bronzing, that will eventually go bad?

No, I would not have known to since it was combined. Why not just provide a Yes/No answer and/or link?
