Halloween has been released on DVD and Blu-ray numerous of times, and he's getting royalties from each and every unit that's sold worldwide, and that's all he cares about.
Geez mate give it a rest. First you say he knows about all the details of this release, then you say he doesn't give a rats ass about them, now its, even if he knew about it and wanted to do something about it there is nothing he could do...which is it?
He'd lose money if the current rights holder/licencee printed replacements?? What?

You've changed your point so much its starting to seems like you're somehow bothered by the fact that there are people who are annoyed the wrong mono track was added here (something that looks like a clear error on Liongate's part as they had likely intended to offer the original mono or they wouldn't have bothered with a mono track at all).

And as an aside, and as I'd hope you were already aware, studios own these films. Most directors have little to no say on how a company releases their movie, and if they do it was dependent on their contracts at the time of shooting the film. Most of the decision over Halloweens home video releases over the years were all made by the companies that licences them, John Carpenter might get a check in the post, he might not, but it is completely at the discretion of said companies to ask for for his input or not.

Ok... sure... but how do you feel about the sacrificed picture quality of upscaling 480 all the way to 4k simply to get a good audio mix? I don't care what player and monitor/tv anyone is using, I have yet to find a DVD that looks more than just ok on a 4k set even with major TV Picture Setting tweaks.

The packaging says English Mono - Dolby Digital. That means it's an english track that produces sound for a single audio channel. That is all. The audio track on this release produces audio for a single audio channel therefore it is an English Mono Dolby Digital audio track. Not false advertising.

If the packaging said, "Original 1978 English Mono Track - Not Mixdown" then it would be false advertising.

I’ll have my lawyer look into this. Her name is Meowsy McDermot and I pay her in belly rubs and butt scratches.

For anyone looking for the Complete Collection box set, it is back in stock at Best Buy's website for $39.99. Just ordered one.

I'm planning to mux the theatrical audio with the 4K video.

She's good. Have her write a strongly worded letter to Lionsgate on official stationary.

I'm actually planning to mux in the theatrical audio included on the Sporv version, though, not the Complete Collection's track. While I don't care for the Sporv version's color timing, it has the theatrical audio captured losslessly from an older LaserDisc, which is nice.

Bottom line if you want the original mono dont buy the release and complain to lionsgate. If you buy it then lionsgate learns nothing.

That's why it's the default and it being the default means the majority of viewers will be using that one and wont stop to consider or care about any other "lesser" audio options.

I'd like to have the mono track, too, but let's not act as if there is some huge demand for it. We and others like us on this forum are a minority of people that dont reflect the general buyer and general movie viewer. We are wanting something with very niche appeal. It's always a priviledge to get an original audio track, but it's not something studios owe us.

Recalls and replacement programs are intended to fix broken releases. Releases that dont function properly due to one reason or another. Or to fix a disc that was missing an advertised feature. The lack of an old mono track doesnt break the disc or cause any functional problems or afaik constitute false advertisement. So it's pointless to even hope for or expect a replacement program.
With that attitude, why should they even bother releasing a decades old movie at all?

Figured I'd post this, because Carpenter is definitely through with Halloween, as Slimdude said:

In all fairness these days "approved by" just means they got a check to state their approval. The vast color differences between Shout/Arrow "The Thing" both approved by Cundey are a good example of this.

That being said with Carpenter doing things like putting out rerecordings/remixes of the Halloween soundtrack just very recently I dont see how it would be possible for him to be done with it.

Well, before this hullabaloo started, I didn't give a shit about the audio.

But now you guys have changed my mind. I've written a letter of complaint to my local MP, the Queen, and a stern missive beginning "Why oh why" to Points of View.

I'll let you all know if I hear back from any of them.
