Thank goodness. I would be ready to hate on it more due to my frustration of the Overrated Locker winning this week.

Well, that it's a reboot, as I said before, is just the studios way of starting a "new" franchise,
hoping it will be the most successful thing since the last thing there was,
Which in this case would probably 'The Dark Knight'.

If it's too soon, well yes, but if you ask me there shouldn't be a reboot for this anyway.
Also, studios like to do this faster and faster
every time there is just a little critique or mishap on a film in a franchise.
It's pretty much the "time is money"-thing, they made place for Webb as soon as Raimi quit.

If it were me, I'd keep the franchise reserved for him
and perhaps have Webb work on the supposed "Venom"-spinoff.
If not him working together with Raimi to give Raimi some fuel to do one, two or even three films after all.
Not that I'd know if it would work though, he apparently had some issues with Danny Elfman too,
and that's just about the music to the film...
But I would definitely have tried a little harder to keep up Raimi's idea for these films.

I don't really get the whole "it's too soon for a reboot". Only in the sense that it would be good to continue the series since there is an established history, style, and actors. This franchise cannot continue the way it was being run (into the ground). So there are two options: wait until we say enough time has passed (3, 5, 10 years) or reboot.

I want more Spider-Man movies. If they can have a continuous franchise, awesome, if not, reboot please.

Indeed my friend. Life is too hard without Spidey.

We waited to long until the technology could handle the first movie. Now I suggest more sequels and reboots until our thirst is quenched.

If that rumored story that was posted before had been Spider-Man 4, good thing they got rid of Rami. People blame multiple villains the problem for Spider-Man 3 but uh it wasn't at all. It was the over top sillyness. Spidey dancing, James Franco winking at everyone, the sudden change of hearts, the awful characterization of Eddie Brock and Carnage (last time I checked Venom was serious)

But I was hoping for them to fix their movie and bring Venom back and stuff but they just really didn't care. And trying to make the reboot all about hs sounds very lame. It might have appealed to me when I was younger but I honestly don't give a damn about high school stories anymore. I rather see Spidey go to college like the first one. Little bit of Senior year and then he graduates.

Who are they going to even make the villain? It can't be someone cheesy.

Agreed about SM3 and high school. High school stuff got a little tiring in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic.

As for the villain, I don't know. Lizard sounds pretty appealing but pretty small scale. I think a fight with Scorpion would be pretty cool but he has never seemed like a good arch nemesis. Really too bad they don't have the rights to Kingpin. While I'm wining about rights, really too bad Marvel does not own all their character rights.

I mean Lizard and Scorpion sound like side appealing characters. And I was about to say that I think Marvel got Kingpin rights back but I realized it's a sony franchise.

Had Marvel kept Spidey we could have gotten him in Spider-Man.

I'd like Venom as a villain but in a second movie that is. Hopefully the Venom spin off is based off this Spider-Man (hoping that it is good)

The reboot has tons of pressure on it, Willem Dafoe's performance as the Green Goblin was near perfect, the first movie really felt like a Spider-Man comic, and the train fight scene in 2 is going to be hard to overcome because that was plain out awesome. Danny Elfman's score was really fantastic too. And I don't know how they're going to get a J.Jonah without J.K. Simmons. Even though Hurt's General Ross was pretty good, I thought Elliot was made for that role.

Agreed on all accounts save for Elliot and Simmons. Their performances were equal to me.

I think the Marvel universe especially Spider-Man in general is cheesy. Raimi pulled it off perfectly. Sure 1 is classic, 2 is epic and the 3rd was a disappointment but if it wasn't for Raimi, then the entire trilogy as we know wouldn't have existed.

Fairly optimistic/disappointed about the remake because I wanted to see Dr. Connors become the Lizard and also wanted to see further development into the Peter Parker's story. But instead we are starting all over again, and I fear this may be the future for the reboot as well.

I actually tried writing a song of criticism for this a few weeks ago, to the tune of "YMCA", and it went something like this...

(clears throat; music starts)

Sony, listen up, listen here
I said, Sony, get your butts into gear
Because you've made the biggest mistake of the year
And the fans are starting to hear...

Sony, Peter Parker was fine
But now you've gone, and runed him for all time
We won't stand for this, you're acting so very blind
And we're ready to kick your behind....

This film is going to S.U.C.K.
Your film is going to S.U.C.K.
You had the perfect film, cast and director, too
But the fans feel royally screwed

S.U.C.K., new Spidey's going to S.U.C.K.
What on Earth have you done? This move really is crap
And from us, you are getting slapped!

This film is going to S.U.C.K.
Yes, you know, you really S.U.C.K.
And what worse is the fact that in making this trash
You've effectively given us the shaft!

This film is going to S.U.C.K.
This film is going to S.U.C.K.

I am excited for a reboot and think it's EXACTLY what this franchise needs. They did a good job forging the way for comic book movies but the casting for the first one was more to legitimize the genre than cast to the actual characters themselves.

I'm excited to see this play out.

Isn't demanding a reboot for a series that had one awful a bit premature? I mean Batman was just going downhill for the most part, that's why it got a reboot. But like I said if that synopsis posted before, I guess it was the smart way to go.

But when will reboots stop? What if they fail again in the series? Another reboot? I mean how many reboots will I have in my lifetime? I'd like to see one official series be continued. Not remade.

I trust Disney with this franchise more so than Sony so if the franchise reverts to them I think it will get good again. They will let Marvel do what they've been doing well lately and that's telling the story of their comic book characters through film.

I think reboots are here to stay for a while. It's the new thing and as long as they prove to be successful they're going to keep doing it.

Personally I'm all for it as long as the reboot is a better, higher quality product.

The problem with Spider-man wasn't only the misstep that was part 3, it's the actors were now to costly to continue. They were also making demands that didn't really serve the story (Dunst needing to have a singing part in the film). The whole thing was spiraling out of control. Sony stepped back, weighed their options (I believe) and decided this was the best way to protect the longevity of this franchise. I think we should all wait and see how things unfold before passing judgment. Who knows, maybe after we all see it, we'll wonder why Sony didn't make THIS movie to begin with. Then again...maybe not

Time will tell
