For the first time the Marlins will have a nice ballpark in a good location with the opening of their new stadium. I would think he'd at least try to make an effort at fielding a competitive team for 2012.

Venezuelan authorities, baseball officials and family members Friday were keeping a tight seal on any developments in the investigation of the kidnapping of major league catcher Wilson Ramos.

Ramos, a rising star for the Washington Nationals as a rookie this past year, was back in his native country to play in Venezuela's winter league.

But before his first game with the Aragua Tigers, gunmen kidnapped him from his mother's home in Santa Ines in Carabobo state.

Baseball fans are observing a minute of silence before games in solidarity with Ramos, and players are wearing green ribbons or bracelets.

On Thursday, authorities said that they found the SUV they believe was used in the kidnapping and that they had created police sketches of two of the gunmen.

But on Friday, news about the federal investigation was tightly guarded.

"It's understandable that everyone wants to know what is happening with Wilson and how the investigation goes, but remember that in these cases, patience is key," Tigers spokeswoman Kathe Vilera said on her Twitter account. She added that keeping the details sealed could help the investigation.

Ramos, 24, emerged as the Nationals' top catcher this past season. He had a .267 batting average with 15 home runs and 52 runs batted in.

They've been talking to Pujols, Reyes, and Buehrle..........I read today, they plan to increase there yearly salary from $57m to $80m......to bad Pujols alone wants MORE than that difference.......they said the Marlins are expecting at least 30,000 fans each game....hope it works out for them.

but yes, crazy news...actually read an article in the New York Times today about it...and they said from 2008 to 2009... there were approximately 17,000 kidnappings!!!!

many of the kidnappings were only for a few hours but still.... seems like a prime source of income down there.... crazy people

Wilson Ramos Found Safe By Authorities

Wilson Ramos has been rescued from his abductors, reports Rafael Rojas Cremonesi. Venezuela's Information Minister tweeted that Ramos was found by authorities (passed on by Cremonesi), and the Ramos family has already been contacted with the good news.

Ramos was kidnapped near his home in Venezuela by four armed gunmen on Wednesday. The kidnappers didn't contact the Ramos family but did contact police, and it was confirmed

The Cardinals made a suprise move by signing Mike Matheny to replace Tony LaRussa.....don't know if that was a good move or not......Matheny is well liked and respected in Cardinal nation, but he has absolutely no managing experience.......now he's taking the horns of a world series team!

The Dodgers and Matt Kemp are reportedly close to an agreement on an eight-year, $160 million contract. Kemp was scheduled to be eligible for arbitration this offseason and would have been a free agent after next season. The deal could become official this afternoon.

It's a lot of money to toss around after a career year. Bautista didn't get 160 million and he was even better than the year before. I was thinking 15 million per for four years and if he has another monster year, tack on a huge extension like the Brewers did with Braun. I suppose his past credentials before his monster year were better than Bautista.

I't going to take some time to get used to 20 million being the floor now for upper tier players.

The Dodgers HAD to sign Kemp or it would have been a massive PR nightmare. They didn't want another Piazza fiasco. It's alot of money for sure but 20 million a year till he's 34 years old isn't that far fetched. This gives me some hope we can add some more pieces to the puzzle.
