I actually kind of will argue for it being a good "thing". Maybe not always a good "film", but divisiveness and challenging themes get people talking and discussing WAY more than your typical generic blockbuster, and that to me is endlessly more interesting and rewarding than what usually comes out of the threads dedicated to films by the mouse factory. Not saying Disney films aren't good, because usually I really enjoy them, but I don't find myself getting as attached or revisiting them as much as the more provocative films out there, which to me goes to show that they just don't leave as strong of an impression and aren't as memorable down the line.

Like GC basically said, challenging and divisive can often make for better experiences that really hit home for you, if you get into it. Don't get me wrong, my top 20 or so movies are probably at least half broadly loved blockbusters. However a lot of classics were divisive at the time, and a lot of movies that challenge audiences the most, or which cater to a specific taste rather than broad appeal, are amazing films.

Which isn't to say they're always better, On average though they are the most exciting to me as, they feel made for me, what I specifically like and connect to.

Yep - RT is completely useless as far as I care. Why would anyone take anything there as if its worth something? Its not. Just a mish mash of eh-hem "professional" reviews. Yeah, right. Everyones a critic nowadays. Please.

Reviews are just subjective opinions anyways. There are NO right and wrong answers here.

There's a difference between slavishly adhering to the RT score and not making up one's own mind (which of course is stupid) and recognizing that RT is a notable part of the conversation about film these days, especially online.

Ultimately nothing but your own tastes and opinions matter to one's self, but when having conversations about the social response to large market films such things as box office and critical consensus are rightly factors in the discussion. To not acknowledge that is to ignore the reality of Hollywood driven filmmaking.
