You must live in a really dull community. Every single time I've seen the teaser at the theater, there was cheering. You are definitely entitled to your opinion and maybe the film doesn't make you excited, but you are clearly in the minority here. The excitement and goodwill for this film is unprecedented, especially given the universal hate for the prequels.

I'm sure he can find some pictures of real sets for all three prequels, but in the end it doesn't matter because those movies still look like CGI overload, which is all that matters. He can never really counter that point.

I can't wait for Disney to buy the rights to Sesame Street so that they can create an official t-shirt of this!

Revenge of the Sith had more sets built than any films in Episodes 4-6. It also had one of the biggest models in history built - the Mustafar miniature which measured over 50 ft in length.

Prequels - CGI overload. Original Trilogy - Optical overload.

Now let's take a look at the OT.

Not a Clone Trooper, but he is in Jango Fett costume. The Clone Trooper armor doesn't exist.

That's the great thing about facts, they don't require you to agree. That's why they're facts.

No one ignores your facts, that's what you don't get. Yes there were sets and models in the prequels. Yes there was blue screen in the original trilogy. None of this is in dispute. The point is the prequels still look like super fake CGI overload digital video. There are literally no pictures you can post or percentages you can quote that make that not a fact.

No because that's an opinion. An incredibly one-sided and ignorant opinion. The Prequels are less overloaded with digital manipulation than big films like Age of Ultron, Tron Legacy, etc. in the last five years. No one bats an eye at those films. Why the double-standard? Oh that's right, because it's Lucas and he's the devil. The fact is that Episodes 1-3 were to digital effects what Episodes 4-6's motion control and opticals were back in the 70's and 80's. Those movies used opticals and blue screen more than perhaps any films in history at that point in time and it ushered in a new era in effects, much the same way Phantom Menace broke so much new ground and made it possible for us to enjoy the kind of superhero and fantasy films that we've enjoyed the last 15 years. So you can continue to have your opinion. You're entitled to that. And I'm entitled to poke all the holes I want in your logic and call it baseless.

The main reason "Clones" and "Sith" look so different is because they weren't shot on film, and the digital cameras Lucas used were very experimental. For example, I once read that the most resolution you'd ever get out of "Clones" would be roughly equal to a 2K scan. For comparison, "The Wizard of Oz" was shot on traditional film 76 years ago, and the Blu-Ray editors scanned it at 4K for the most recent edit. With "Clones" and "Sith", no physical film dailies exist...or if they do, the quality would be greatly limited.

"The Phantom Menace" suffers less in this regard, since Lucas stuck with traditional film on it.

Honestly, I never noticed the "digital vs. film" thing when I saw them in theaters. Perhaps because at my theaters they were projected on film, but still. I think a lot of it comes down to the films being so far ahead of their time technically. Only in the last 5-6 years has the industry really caught up to what Lucas was doing 10-15 years ago. And many people, especially a certain group of fans with no knowledge or information, just look at them and say "Oh this looks different. Do not want!" and don't take into account how revolutionary the films really were, similar to the original three nearly forty years ago, but also how the techniques haven't changed a whole lot at the same time. They still use models. They still use matte paintings, they're just digital now. Same for puppets. Instead of a rob puppet we now have fully formed digital characters that can give real performances. The technology has changed, but the techniques are still quite similar. It still takes dedicated artists so many hours to create these wonderful and imaginative creations and I wish people would just take a moment to realize that and appreciate how special it is to have these kinds of expansive vistas and sequences on the screen in the first place.

Link?

But by the same token, if people are going to bash the Prequels in this thread, then you should remove those posts too, correct? How far do you take it?

That's a discussion of the Blu-ray's, not the films. This is pretty much the only thread I see in the Movies section.
