Just a thought. How about making a box frame instead of using legs then fill the inside of the frame with dampening material, would this work as good?

Yes, as long as you raise the sub, it is effective. Also increase the length of the sub legs a few inches.

My idea is not to use legs at all but have the riser rest on the box frame and fill the frame with dampening material. Also are you saying I should use 1x6 instead?

Sometimes the legs or spikes with down-firing subs that come from the manufacturer are too short. If you can replace them with something a few inches longer, it may help.

BD,
I have decided to use this design for my build. ![]() I think is the most aesthetically pleasing (WAF), and can be done relatively easily. A couple of 2x4s, a sheet of plywood, some carpet, and some foam on the bottom. Do you think I will receive the isolation I seek with this design? I mainly just want to stop stuff from rattling as much in my living area. Thanks, Jason |

Jomari, thanks for bringing me up over and over again in this thread, I had no idea what you were talking about either till I read the post you found. In all due respect, this was just another post of something I learned from BD in one of his infinate knowledge database of a thread somewhere. JJ, just pull the damn trigger and make or buy a riser/decoupler! I think I actually came across this thread when I was digging through your posts some months back. Not only do I suggest making your own bass 'whatever you wanna call it' because it's something you did yourself, it's also because if you don't like it, you can't really feel that bad as if you paid a chunk of money to an internet site and had it shipped to you. Plus, when you make it yourself, you have room to personalize. Look at mine, I used one of my overly priced corner bass absorbers to mount to the bottom of my 'experiment', and I love it! If I didn't love it?...rip the bastard off and think of something else! Don't like your Aurelex bass 'whatever'???....your stuck with it. Know what I mean?

I was just trying to figure out the differences, dammit, Ice! But its down to a SubDude HD from Auralex or me actually making a riser myself. I thought about getting the Auralex and just turning that into a riser itself. I'd have to make it gorgeous and spend a decent amount of time to it - but my schedule is fairly booked until graduation (

![]() to some extent, i can relate to those who cant build em. first off, not alot of people have the woodworking skills (although this is quite fairly easy) or the tools, others dont have the time, and others, well, dont have a place to do this. congrats on the subdude HD. |

perhaps if you spent less time changing your avatar every 15 minutes, you'd have time to cut a simple piece of wood and attach legs and carpet to it!!! You are too funny! But for real, it took me a stinking hour to make mine, and it was enjoyable. I'm not done yet, hence the legs of my riser, but I'm planning on attaching the same legs I used for my tv bench for the sub riser. I dig the polished look of metal legs, like my couch. JJ, I know you've seen my couch because of our furniture lighting battle that we had! Anyways, like I said, I think you can build something totally better than what Auralex can sell you, that is unless you want to settle for 'below average'? Pre-loaded question.
