I read that the French is one of the best but I am not clear on it being region free.

I found this one. Is it worth getting? Thanks!

I agree with bonehica - I own this version and it's look fantastic, certainly blows the DVD version out of the water. Absolutely worth owning for fans of the film, and it's the extended cut.

Yes region free - you'll be very happy with it. The DVD was always a terrible transfer.

Looks like it is OOP. I wonder what my options are now. There are a variety of offerings on eBay, but I am not sure which is best.

It's not OOP. Looks like Amazon is getting more copies on June 5th. I just placed an order.

Got my hands on the new Studio Canal German release. Arthaus is on the cover but only as distributor it seems, once you play the disc it's just SC logos. At disc insert it prompts to select UK or Germany so apparently it's the same disc for both, as usual with SC. EDIT: If you select Germany you get the Arthaus logo and more warnings than I care to sit through.

I was looking to replace the old crappy Shout release with even more crappy subtitles that weren't fixed even in the replacement, lol.

This fits the bill perfectly. The remastered transfer is beautiful and the subtitles are done properly now (the original French release from 2008 already had good English subs btw). Also has the two commentaries that were in that disc. The Shout only has one place now: the trash.

Has an Atmos track but if it had MA 5.1 I'd been happy all the same. 150 min, so it's the director's cut. Great outing from SC.

Yeah, I picked up the UK 1080p set and would agree that the remastered transfer is beautiful. My old French disc looked terrible so it's great to see a presentation like this. My wife and I are properly watching the new disc tomorrow (our next shared day off).

Yes there is.

As @KootiePie notes same discs in both countries

You should note though unlike France and Germany the UK release includes a 4th disc which is the original French theatrical cut (the UK theatrical cut was edited by the distributor) in HD on a BD.

All 3 countries give you the
UHD - Directors Cut
BD - Directors Cut
BD - extras

Thank you. I was really looking for feedback on the PQ and if there was a noticeable difference from the bluray.

Think its same UHD disc everywhere.

Would suggest you read the UHD specific thread here
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=360754

as that's much more likely to answer the question. This thread should really be for the BD version.

Agree it's confusing here. Useful to discuss both UHD and BD versions in the film posts on this sub-forum as you may miss out if you don't frequent the UHD sub-forums here.

As an example to me £25 for this title is a great price even if you aren't watching the UHD as you get 3 BDs, with the remastered Director's Cut, first time French theatrical cut out in UK and a BD of extras for that price. Many releases are £15 to £20 for just one BD disc. Here's looking at the likes of Arrow.

Okay doesn't have all the "fluff" of many Arrow, 88 Films etc. titles these days but it is multiple discs of quality content plus a slipcase (if that rocks your boat) all for £25, which is a very fair price to me.

I am upgrading from my Canadian 3-dvd and it just arrived so I hope to watch at the weekend. I'm a bit alarmed the opening restoration card indicates the sfx are redone, I presume there will be nothing revisionist in them? Let's see if I notice, but at least the original unrestored theatrical is there anyhow since I haven't seen that since, well the Irish theatrical run, although I can't say whether that'd be different to the disc here. I'm supposing too that a lot of the extras from the 3-dvd aren't ported so I plan to keep that set. What I've seen of the included blu ray is stunning looking and I'm delighted to have the commentary subbed now.

It's been completely rebuilt, but they're the same effects, just regraded.

What was the deal with the original UK only cut and removing an entire character?
