I tried all the TV settings (4:3 letterbox and 4:3 pan and scan and my default 16:9 Widescreen). No matter what I do I get stretch-o-vision on my 4:3 DVD's. I'm not overly concerned as I only play BD's in it since I discovered the issue with 4:3 DVD's but would like to know if its a firmware issue and if others see it also. Its just funny that everything works right with 4:3 DVD's on my Panasonic DVD recorder and my Toshiba A2.

again, i haven't tested lately. however, do you have the latest firmware. iirc, there was some firmware update that fixed this but i am not 100% sure.

I have installed the latest firmware 1.2 Oct 07 which fixed the issue with the latest Fox titles BD+ issues. I never noticed it earlier as I never tried playing a 4:3 DVD in it till just recently when I was trying to watch Black Sheep Squadron and noticed the stretch-o-vision no matter what settings I changed. Wierd cause I'm using the very same settings and HDMI port as my HD-DVD A2 player and it work fine so too does my Panasonic ES15s DVD recorder on 480p component video with the same TV and video settings. My HDTV only allows me to use Full/Wide or Zoom on HDMI but as said this is not an issue with my A2. I would prefer to use my BD-P1000 to play everything (save HD-DVD, of course) if I can.

storm, we understand that your other players work fine. it is an issue either with the player or the set. i'll see what testing i can do tonight, but given that it's in my roommates room will dictate what i can do.

Thanks, I love my BD-P1000 and till the stretch-o-vision thing is fixed I'll go ahead and use my other stand alone units for 4:3. Just glad to know its not me not understanding something or a major problem with my B-P1000...actually its not exactly what I would call a major problem just a minor annoyance that hopefully will get a fix soon.

Default New Firmware !!!!

Finally ! Samsung has released a new euro firmware. Version 1.3
I can confirm it fixes "the fox-bug". "Sunshine" plays flawless finally. It seems to me that the picture quality is better now, and load time a bit shorter.

Default Playing Sony hdr-ux7 b/r h/d on sony BD-P1000

Hello There-

I've tried to play a recorded, finalized disc from my blu-ray camcorder on the samsung. It recognizes the disc but not the recording. The disc plays fine when the camcorder is hooked to my hi-def TV. I have the latest firmware upgrade on the Samsung (v1.3). Any suggestions?

Same here, my Samsung BD-P1000 is running great. I hate to have to update the firmware as much as we have had to but I guess its better than getting stuck with a player that isn't updated at all. I'm very happy with it, no plans to get a PS3.

Anyone else have any problems with this player and some of the Harry Potter discs? 3-5 worked fine, but 1 and 2 would not play.

I had mine updated last month ( firmware ) and everthing plays perfectly except Live free ot die hard. I have checked with Samsung ans they are saying a new update will be available in February.

I see MANY MANY people ahving problems with the 1400 model. You would think that would run better then the old one

My player is now not playing anything. I got Potter 1 and 2 to work, but it won't play Simpsons, Yuma or anything else now. All this started when I "upgraded" to firmware 1.3. Anyone know where I can get get firmware 1.2?

Edit:Pirates 3 is working, but only after about 4 attempts.

Has anyone had this problem with the Samsung 1000? I updated my player with 1.3 when it came out and all my disc played great but about a week ago newer disc such as 3:10, Die Hard collection and Mr. and Mrs. Smith wouldn't play. Unless I put an older disc in first then they would play. Yesterday I decided to put the 1.3 firmware disc back in the player and it re-updated the player and now all my movies play. So what I'm asking has anyone's player firmware regressed?

You'll need to quantify that. "MANY MANY" are not having problems with the 1400. Much fewer people than those with the 1000 and 1200. I've had zero issues with mine right out of the box, unlike the 1200 and 1000 which have been riddled with issues. That's why I dumped my 1200 for a 1400. All the players are getting their FW updates, so I'm sure everyone is going to have their players smooth out soon. The 1400 just had another FW update, V1.5, released. It's all coming together.

The first thing you have to do is confirm whether or not your player actually completed the upgrade. After updating, make sure to go back in to the menu and check to see if you've actually upgraded by looking at the version. Considering it takes a little wait time while it updates, you can very well have missed the upgrade by prematurely ejecting the disk or stopping the process. It can a little tricky upgrading.
