Their track record is pretty horrible. It seems like a better fit than AT&T or AOL. Yet they keep snatching defeat from victory. They are just adding another streaming service to the mix, when they still have not figured out how to handle the ones they have. People are not going to give up HBO because it has live tv. They cannot add live t to HBO Max because of regulatory issues.

This could be a great thing. I think DC definitely needs a creative shakeup. Maybe we will get some new live action DC series and a fresh start on a DC cinematic universe. Maybe they will do something more with Blade Runner or Babylon 5. I'm not exactly sure of everything they have or what this merger/sale involves. Hopefully they get creative with some all new things.

I just heard about this. But, it appears that AT&T is in massive debt and they didn't know what they were buying when they acquired Warner Brothers. This also could affect current productions like Green Lantern, Titans, Doom Patrol, Arrowverse and more. The selloff is likely to affect DC Comics in a major way, the publishing arm of WarnerMedia.
I don't think Discovery is going to want to absorb the continued sale losses that DC has been suffering from with the bad directions of many of their comic titles. |

Fox has a lot more assets of value than WB.
Disney got: All of the Fox Marvel characters. Huge get for continuing MCU Rights back to Star Wars Episode 4. Assets for Hulu which is another bonus as it allows them to have two distinct streaming services. Huge catalog of Fox titles I am sure I missed some stuff but these were the most notable assets. I am sure because of what Disney was getting back, it was worth more to overpay than underpay. Not saying WB doesn't some of these assets but outside of their catalog stuff, their current movie slate hasn't been strong. They have had more misses than hits recently. Which is why I don't get this deal. Discovery isn't a media group known for anything splashy or done anything worth of note. So yes it does allow extra content for both parties but I don't know how much stomach they have for footing 100 million+ budgets for movies. |
