Q: How many HD DVD players and recorders, exactly, did you sell?
A: 600,000 players in the US -- 300,000 of which were Xbox 360 HD DVD drives. 100,000 units were sold in Europe. And about 10,000 players and 20,000 recorders in Japan. So about 730,000 units worldwide.

1,000,000 units-730,000 units= A Straight up Damn Lie!

And now it all comes to the light. Goodwork Toshiba.

Paramount stabbed the BDA in the back. they don't get a kind welcome. they get tough love. no free discs for them.

At last there is some coverage of the HD format war in Ireland

But it's not a bad article to start with I guess.

What does this mean for Paramount/Universal? Are they free from their contracts?

That's what is being reported. We will be hearing from both studios later today - should be fun!

I can't say how pleased I am to finally this news.

After all the grief, politics - and almost religion - about this horrible war, we can now look forwards to seeing even more great films in HD.

And it looks like it was the retailers rather than the studios that forced the issue. It was a very multi-faceted war, and I can't wait to see how this thread balloons discussing the fall-out.

Open the history books!

Congratulations everyone! For once, the superior format has won!

As if this isn't exciting enough, we have the Paramount and Universal announcements to look forward too!!!

Kind of feels like it's Christmas all over again... Now we just need the announcements as to when the remaining studios will be Blu and it will be complete. Wonder if those announcements really will come later today? Later this week? I'm getting anxious over here.

Congratulations to all. Most especially to all the posters and mods and folks who've been on this site since the beginning, or near the beginning. You provided a great, informative place for the rest of us to enlist and help with this glorious cause. For the rest of us, it ended up being a much shorter, and much more enjoyable, war than it might otherwise have been. Gotta add this one more time:

Boy did this war end faster than even I expected.

I do recall 'Talkstr8t' stating pre-CES that apart form studio support decisions a series of events would shortly follow afterwards that would indicate the clear outcome of the winner (or words to that effect). I guess he was referring to the retail sector. Very prophetic.

Warner put HD-DVD on the canvas. They got up (dumping stock) took a few more blows (Best Buy, Netfix) before succumbing to the knock-out punch that was delivered by Walmart.

However, perhaps this was not a boxing match per say, more a wrestling bout where the script was written post CES and ALL the players performed on que to leave Tosh with an exit strategy.

Whoever writes the book on this one its going to be a best seller. Will Michael Bay buy the film rights?
