Default no DIVX or MKB

So I buy this player because it's supposed to play Divx and MKV files with a software update, I update it and nada....nothin. Call Samsung and speak with a rep and all they do is point me to the manual and say it does not support Divx or MKV ? WTF ?

Anyone get their 1600 to play divx or mkvs?

Please help

I've read that the Samsung only reads DVD - R, not DVD + R so that might've been my whole problem but the LG390 reads all types so that was what I bought for my DAD so he could utilize my discs.

The DVD -R +R issue is only for the AVCHD discs. It will play regular DVD's that are +r or -R

Divx was never added to this model, only the 3600 and 4600 can play dixv. As for the mkv and mpeg 4 playability, it seems that is wasn't added to the U.S. 1600 players, but it was added to the player in other markets. It sucks though because it can play it but it isn't enabled for the U.S. players. Hopefully in a future firmware they will add it.

Default List of Samsung BD-P1600 Problems

I use my player every day so I've tried nearly 200 blu-rays on my Samsung player. I just downloaded firmware 2.05 and loader 1.06 and it did not correct any of these issues I previously had with firmware 2.04 and loader 1.00.

This is my most common issue that I have not seen discussed on any Samsung forum. When I load Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Jim Carrey's Grinch Stole Christmas, Death Race, and Up, the player freezes and crashes on the menu screen and it has to be shut down. I thought this was related to Universal Pictures menu screens until it happened with Up. However, this crash only happens if one of these 4 discs is the first blu-ray put into the machine after powering up or if they are inserted after a DVD has been played. If another blu-ray has been loaded up to the menu screen and then these discs are played, they will not crash. They will still crash if they follow a Warner Bros. blu-ray though since those discs go straight to the movie and do not have a menu screen. Has anyone else ever seen this? I e-mailed Samsung customer support twice about Sarah Marshall and they did not even have the courtesy to write me back.

Another problem I just discovered is that Wall-e freezes just past the 54 minute mark when the rogue robots escape and the one hour twelve minute mark right after Eve reboots in the garbage heap. Version 2.05 seems to have corrected the freeze at the 54 minute mark but the other freeze is still there.

Also, at least once per movie my audio will go out for a second, but this also happened with my Samsung 1080i upconverter so I think this issue could be corrected with a new HDMI cable.

Any comments are appreciated, especially since Samsung ignored me.

When the time comes that I *must* do an update, will I have to update each firmware release or will the latest contain everything from prior releases?

Asking one more time......

Default Firmware

For an answer to your firmware question. You only have to update to the current version if you have never done it before. For example, you would update to 2.05. You have to do two straight updates to update the loader. I didn't know this the first time and I had ver 2.04 and loader 1.00. When I updated to 2.05, which was my second upgrade, the loader went to 1.06

I ordered my BD player before reading this thread. But no problem. The one thing I got from this is that you should not upgrade the FW.

Got my 1600 for $124 to go with my LN40B550 TV. I have not upgraded the FW and so far it have played everything I put in. Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Monster vs. Aliens, UP and a few more so far.

After reading this thread why would anyone upgrade their player? Out of the box it had Netflix, Pandora, Youtube and Blockbuster. So why do I need to upgrade?

I feel for all that have done so an now have a brick but I also thank you all for posting your experience so others don't fall into the same trap. Hopefully Samsung will do more QA with their FW before making it public from here on out.

Thanks everyone.

Because chances are eventually you will have to upgrade if you want to play new releases but by then you won't have the option to take it back and exchange it. Best of luck with the dice roll.

Default Netflix problem

BD-P1600 connects to network ok via USB and hardwire, and it will play pandora, youtube and blockbuster, but not netflix. It gets the netflix banner and displays all the movies in my queue, however the movie graphics don't display the movie banner you should see with each title. When I click on Play, the next screen says "receiving" and "quality", the it goes back to a screen that says"this movie is not currently available, try another title." All 15 movies in my queue fail to play and eventually say the same error message.

Samsung techs have had me reset my router, cable modem (cox) and reactiviate Netflix activation several times. Their final proposal is to run the player directly from the cable modem rather than thru the router - which would mean no computer connectivity if I want to watch a movie.

Name me a new release. I just rented and played, GI-Joe, Star Trek, UP, Night at the Museum 2, Terminator Salvation, Dawn of the Dinosaure, some movie called The Invisible (by accident) and a few regular DVD's. So far no issues and those are all new releases. Will get a few more today and watch but so far no prob.

Don't ask me, ask Samsung. They keep releasing updates to fix playback capabilites so there must be problems with certain discs. You're sure to find some eventually which by then you'll be out of return options and Samsung, being the tops in customer service that they are, will have decided that they don't want to support your player nearly as frequently as they used to. So you'll have to wait 6 mos. for an update only to have the update not fix the problem and screw something else up. Am I a former jaded Samsung owner? I'll let you take a wild guess.

I too have a problem. I just installed my BD-P1600, and DVDs work fine. But once I put in a Blu-Ray (Star Trek and Paper Heart, just rented these). It says "This disc can not be played."

Has anyone found a solution to this?

I have updated the latest Firmware to see if that worked and it didn't.

My 1600, which also has newest firmware, had a terrible time with Star Trek (2009), Up, and Monster's Inc. Samsung said it was my player, and yes they even sent me an email stating I needed to send it in. Hmmm, just over 200 BR movies and those 3 are the only one's I have problems with. Well, my solution was pretty simple...I bought a new Sony 360.

Default Problems

I upgraded to firmware 2.04 originally because Watchmen was not working properly. It would skip back to chapter 2 just before the credits begin as the camera zooms in on the bloody smiley pin.

With 2.04 I began to have menu loading issues with Sarah Marshall, Grinch, and Death Race. All Universal titles. Then Up's menu would crash and Wall-E froze in the middle of the movie twice. I still had the original 1.00 loader though becuase I didn't know about downloading twice until I read these message boards.

So, I upgraded to 2.05 and loader 1.06 and things are even worse. All the same problems are there except Wall-E only freezes once now. I've since had menu crashing with Waterworld, Lost Season 5 Disc 1, G-Force, and Groundhog Day crashed when I hit play. G-Force also had a freezing issue once during the movie. All of these menu crashes can be corrected by either restarting the machine or playing another non-Warner Bros. Blu-ray disc first. If the movies would not play at all then I would have already scrapped the machine even though I've only had it for 4 months.

So, I am not impressed at all and getting more frustrated by the day. I see similar issues discussed on the Samsung message boards in other sites, and I see Samsung representatives posting. Why don't they fix their firmware????

Well all I can say is so far so good. I just don't see doing an update for the sake of updating like I read most did on here. Just because it says update available, doesn't mean you should get it.

Now that I have watched most of the recent movie titles out there. I am now going back and watching old favorites that are in BD format. Just watched Kill Bill (vol 1), The Matrix(1). Kill Bill was killer in HD. Will most likely get some TV shows in BD as well.

I be sure to let you know when I run into the first disk that does not work. Will I upgrade because of it? Will have to see, but so far so good.
