The press release said "focusing on", so I don't think that means one film will be 100% kids and the other will be 100% adults.

I think Paul Giamatti would be great as Pennywise. I think he could pull off the creepy/menacing clown look, and I think he could also come up with a great voice for the character.

I love the guy but sometimes he really strains the suspension of disbelief. For instance, he wasn't bad in John Adams but I couldn't help thinking things like 'hey look, it's George Washington and Paul Giamatti'.

But if this worked it could be really, really cool.

I hear you. Giamatti just popped in my head when I thought about actors who could play Pennywise.

Some other people I thought of:
  • Michael Emerson
  • Crispin Glover
  • Willem Defoe
  • Michael Wincott

Sort of like Darth Maul in TPM...acted by Ray Park but masterfully voiced (albeit breifly), by Peter Serafinowicz.

The truth is, in the 80s miniseries, they could have put Pennywise's makeup on anyone and anyone could have done decent facial expressions, but it was Curry's voice that stole the show.
Have to say I disagree really. Sometimes the actor is important depending on the role of course involved, but the physicality of the actor can make or break a character, nevermind CGI. Frankly I'm tired of overused CGI almost all the freakin time. Something as simple as this clown doesn't need to be CGI. Yes I agree that the "voice" can make or break the character and our judgement on the character in addition to looks most times, but Curry had the voice for sure which I loved, but his own physicality he brought and actions to the role as well which not just anyone could have done.

I'm kind of surprised Michael Shannon's name hasn't come up at all.

A) He's a great actor, he can definitely do slow-burn menacing and he's got those craggy 'not a Hollywood matinee idol' features (that are also a little ageless - he could be thirty or fifty and that's without make-up.) And he's a great actor.

B) His name always comes up. Are his fifteen internet minutes up already?

Please cast only unknown actors. Maybe even for Pennywise.

Good pick. I could see Shannon in the role.

Another actor I thought of (because I just watched Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) is Peter Stormare. He was really creepy in Constantine.

Gotcha. I don't think it did either, but The Hobbit wound up as 3 movies, soo....

Great part about IT, is that they could easily break it right down the middle of the book and have a phenomenal cliffhanger without forcing one.

So true about the split. It would work very well.

Who could play the drop dead gorgeous adult Bevy?

Cary Fukunaga's It will begin shooting next year.

The True Detective director is attached to the adaptation of Stephen King's iconic horror.

"The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot," producer Dan Lin told Vulture.

"Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we've been with this for about three or four years, so we're super excited that he stayed with it. You guys are gonna be really excited."

The 1986 novel was famously adapted into a two-part television film in 1990.

It centres around a group of children who must face off against a force that takes on its victims' greatest fears, personified by Pennywise the Clown.

Years later, they are forced to confront the evil again.

The new It adaptation will also be split into two parts. Fukunaga is currently only attached to direct the first.

"The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing," added Lin.

"We didn't want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, 'Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make'. So that was really gratifying."

Fukunaga will executive produce the second season of True Detective, which will star Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly.

From Beetlejuice to Gremlins, the EW interview with Seth Grahame-Smith has been beyond revealing, as the writer appears to be one of the more candid filmmakers in Hollywood.

Also hidden within the lengthy piece, Grahame-Smith talks about the long-gestured adaptation of Stephen King’s It.

“I think that if anything, [the new film] will bring back some of the viciousness of the book that they couldn’t do with the miniseries because it was for broadcast… I think it’s going to be very scary, but I also feel like you’ve got Cary who is going to direct these kids—and he’s incredible at casting, incredible at shooting. He’s incredible with tone and atmosphere. One of the things I wanted to do is be a part of one of the really good King adaptations. As we know, there is an echelon of King adaptations that are classics. There are some that are okay. There are some that we’d rather forget.”

Warner Bros. has been developing for what feels like an eternity, here’s an update on the progress:

“We’re going to get a draft, what is supposed to be the shooting [script], any day now from Cary and his writing partner… We’re doing a deal for them to write the second movie. Our hope is to prep sometime in the next few months and shoot in the summer. That one is as much on the runway as we can possibly be. I know New Line is ready to go.”

The 1990 television series took place in 1960, where seven outcast kids known as “The Loser Club” fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown (pictured; Pennywise). 30 years later, they are called back to fight the same clown again

‘It’ Clown Pennywise Will Terrorize New York This June!

Quote:
The feature film adaptation of Stephen King’s It is finally entering pre-production, with plans on going behind cameras this June in New York, reports Production Weekly.

The first in what could be a new trilogy is to be helmed by “True Detective’s” Cary Fukunaga.

One of the delays was Fukunaga’s hunt to find the perfect Pennywise, otherwise known as the killer clown from the novel and television adaptation.

Based on the novel by Stephen King, the 1990 horror miniseries “It” originally starred Tim Curry as the hellish Pennywise. It took place in 1960 where seven outcast kids known as “The Loser Club” fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. 30 years later, they are called back to fight the same clown again…

Seth Grahame-Smith, David Kajganich and Chase Palmer penned the new feature for Warner Bros. Grahame-Smith previously said they brought back some of the viciousness from King’s book.

Was waiting for news or updates for the longest time !

Can't wait until they announce who Pennywise will be. Hope it won't be some popular choice like JK Simmons. Also... hope the clown will be "clean". I don't want some gritty, dirty disgusting clown. Somehow I find it scarier if he is spotless. Weird.. I know...
