Almost just goes to show if you play someone who really existed in real life you will win a Oscar. Or base it on true events from life.
Jamie Foxx - Ray Charles Daniel Day Lewis - Abraham Lincoln Reese Witherspoon - June Cash Philip Seymour Hoffman - Truman Capote Sean Penn - Harvey Milk I'm sure there's a whole ton of others, but almost seems they guarantee it. ![]() |

yes!
and Zelwegger looked high. Her eyes were almost completely shut, with big grin. Not a bad Oscars overall. I haven't seen many of the films, so couldn't judge whether the awards were given to the best nominees. |

Well I may have phrased it rudely but haven't the Bush's admitted to not being fans of films or caring about films. They never did anything to support the arts during their reign.
I know the Obamas have repeatedly professed their appreciation of artistic endeavors and that is why I feel Mrs,. Obamas presence was justified during the award ceremony. . |

Rom Com's can win acting awards too, but it's not like it was in the same league as Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. |

My biggest disappointment of the night was not seeing Roger Deakins (Skyfall) take the stage for Cinematography.
![]() The surprise I enjoyed the most was Ang Lee getting Best Director. And to think I was in the same room as him just yesterday! ![]() I felt Seth MacFarlane did a pretty decent job and I laughed out loud at many of his jokes. But, boy, did he really lay a turd with the joke about Lincoln. That was atrocious and in extremely poor taste. You simply don't make that kind of joke about a beloved president. I'm sure he wishes he could take that one back! Mark |

![]() I think it is harder to play someone that was a real person. You have to try and be that figure of history where people know who that person was/is. You have to try and be as close to the real thing as possible. I think that is why they win Oscars. |

Oh, Affleck!--Just caught the reply, and thought you meant Ang Lee.
![]() (No, seriously, Crouching Tiger, Brokeback, Wedding Banquet, Pi, AND the first Hulk, and the guy's married....O-kay.) As for Seth, someone else pointed out that it looked like they wanted their own Neil Patrick Harris from the Tonys, and that eternal quest for "Youthful and Edgy"--And ended up getting another passive-hostility crabby Jon Stewart (2nd gig) whose "edgy" kept getting booed out of the monologues, was forced to play it straight, and looked bored and disgusted with himself (qv. David Letterman) for doing it. First lesson, aka the Chris Rock Lesson: Edgy doesn't play with the boring old actor crowd in the house. (Although we'll give him the point that Chicago, Les Miz, and Streisand/Hamlisch was "too gay". That's Hosting Lesson #2 about knowing your house--With an audience that's 65% actors and industry, there's no such thing as "Too gay".) Last edited by EricJ; 02-25-2013 at 04:44 AM. |

Why I said almost. Plus Meryl Streep won for the Iron Lady which was based on a real person wasn't it?

Wasn't a shock to me, but in retrospect, I do wish Philip Seymour Hoffman won. It has been a while since I've seen The Master and I admittedly overlooked his performance. It was the best supporting role of the year (that I've seen). Waltz did great and I am a big Tarantino fan, but I had a hard time separating Dr. Schultz from his dominating screen presence as Hans Landa a few years back.
