I know my wallet is going to regret me asking this question, but which set are we talking about?

I completely agree that Kubrick's films get better with repeat viewings.
I have seen it twice and I do like the film. It sends an incredibly strong message about the ideologies of war. Every time I've watched it, though, I was left with the lingering question about whether I want to watch it again (the same can be said for all of Kubrick's films pre-Strangelove for me).

I think I'm at a point in my life where I'll give it another shot and probably be affected by it immensely.

The ending of Paths of Glory is so beautiful, one of the best endings to a film ever.

I went in blind but I had this feeling I'd really enjoy this film. I'd recommend it for anyone that enjoys Monterey or music played by......instruments!. It's mostly performances, the people who attended and interviews with musicians. The 2K transfer looks great. Performances by Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul and Mary, Son House, Johnny Cash, to name a few.

I watched Lost in America last night for the very first time. It was a blind buy. Has anyone else seen this film or own it on blu-ray?

My initial thoughts are that Albert Brooks is a comic genius and has an acting method that very few (or none) have been influenced by. The film is a bit dated but its a film about people, not places (even though its coined as a "road movie"). The Winnebago RV is almost a 3rd character in the film too. I watched all the supplements on the Criterion disc too and thoroughly enjoyed James Brooks' interview (no relation to Albert as you know). I didn't know that Nicolas Winding Refn was "frightened" by the anger in Lost in America (Albert Brooks appeared in his film Drive in 2011). There's no doubt that the impulsive character played by Julie Hagerty is one many women can relate to these days. I totally agree with what she said about Albert Brooks and that her only criticism of him is that she "wishes he had made more films." No doubt I agree with her too.

My favorite scene in the film was the one with Executive Producer/Director Garry Marshall (I love that a lot of the characters in the film were played by non-actors!). Here's a screenshot below of the epic scene (Marshall played a casino manager).

^ It's a hilarious movie and I was thrilled when Criterion got a hold of it. What I'm embarrassed to say is that I still haven't watched that version of it, that I picked up last July. And I'm stockpiling even more during this month's sale! I feel sick.

But regarding Lost in America, I think it's the best thing Albert Brooks has ever done. And you're right - that conversation with Garry Marshall is a gem!

I don't own it, but yes it's a wonderful film. It's been too long since I've seen it, frankly.

And as to Refn -- I'm a fan, as you can probably tell by my sig -- and he has a LOT of very strange opinions of film.

There isn't a bag large enough for what I would take from that closet.

Taking a cue from blujazz and showing this off here...

Just got this back in the mail today. Used the OfficialPix send-in service to get Criterion legend Molly Ringwald to sign my Sixteen Candles poster at a recent convention appearance.

Does anyone know how long it takes them to send a replacement disc? I had a defective Summer Hours and sent it to them 3 weeks ago and so far I haven't heard a thing... starting to get worried...

Out of all her movies, why that one? The rape movie, sigh. Still pretty cool though that you got it signed from her .

I'm really hoping Lost in America has been selling well enough for Criterion to release some of Brooks' other films. Real Life and Modern Romance especially would be great.

Have to admit to knowing very little about Albert Brooks. But he was great in Drive, which I only just saw a couple of weeks ago.

I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head.

Tomorrow I'm going to call in sick to work and make blueberry crepes and fresh croissants for breakfast.

Then spend the entire day in the nude.

Not one article of clothing will cover my body from dawn to dusk.

With the possible exception of the French beret I purchased at JC Penny back in college.

...this will be a day long remembered.
