I think it's safe to say that the new 4K transfer from Arrow will be a noticeable improvement.
Yes, the standard blu ray is a bit better. Fathom was using the version used for streaming, with some DNR, smoothing and it is a bit darker/less contrast.

It did look GOOD, as I've been saying, but yeah, not nearly as good as it could look. Depends more on your theater this time, to enhance a mediocre DCP. It's a shame for a lot of people going to see it, thinking this film has aged badly. I've always enjoyed the blu ray, it's got nice grain and grime to it, but known it could use a re-scan and will be like seeing it for the first time again, I'm sure.

That's how I felt about RoboCop for a very long time. Streaming, it was darker, smoother, muddier, and older blu rays and DVDs lacked the character it needed. The 2014 "4K remaster" was a revelation.

More like $35 per movie. The third film is a pile of poo and should be included for free.

I really do wonder how much of an improvement these transfers will be though. I have absolutely no issues with how the current BDs look.

Should be a massive improvement. The current transfers are more than 20 years old. The first film was transfered about 28 years ago for the DVD release in February 1998.

A thousand times this. I’ve still got the pizza box trilogy and feel I’ve spent enough on em.

Knowing Arrow, the improvement will likely be very noticeable.

Thanks!

Is the version used for streaming, which Fathom used, the same one as that currently available on Fandango at Home?

I have the blu ray and the digital copy on FaH of the first TMNT.

If FaH uses the same scan as the theatrical re-release, it would be interesting to compare the two.

I agree with you guys on the price. They better throw a lot more stuff in to make it worth it for 65 for the blu 70 for the 4k.

Hopefully the special features will be really good

Wasn't making any judgement on movie quality, but even two isn't unreasonable for that price... However, it's still three no matter if you like them all or not, so that's cheap today.

As for the look, if it's better, all will be good.

Then I guess I shouldn't feel too bad that I spent $57 last year on "The Ring Collection" set released by Shout.

I see a lot of people complaining (not just here) about the prices of these types of releases from top notch labels like Arrow, VS, etc

You want them, you want the excellent 4K disc(s), the excellent packaging, the excellent extras, etc. but you want to pay like $25 for it all... it's simply not possible.

I know not everyone may have the funds available but we need to show our support for these types of releases if we want them to keep coming. I know I do.

Just pre-ordered the Blu Ray set on Amazon 70.04 that’s with tax and prime free shipping.

Hope those extras announced on my birthday are amazing. Also more physical swag too please

Umm... no, not at all. Like I pointed out earlier, discounts/sales can get lower prices, but full price for this or your new example are still not anything to complain about. Not sure how you think you're countering that point.

I wasn’t countering the point. I was just saying that I ended up paying almost $60 for The Ring movies knowing that it was overpriced. But since I actually never owned The Ring movies on any format and I actually like the first two movies, I figured it was a worthwhile investment. But now that you say $23 per movie is a good price, I no longer feel upset at myself for my purchase.

Am I right in saying they added the ADR lines in the opening April attack "get her purse" because they didnt want it to look like a sexual assault?

I agree with this. While paying less money is always preferable of course lol, I have absolutely no problem paying a “premium” price for a movie I love as long as it’s done right.

If it helps anyone and you make a lot of purchases on Amazon & have Prime; I highly recommend getting the Prime Visa card (Chase). You can rack up points pretty quickly which you can then put towards physical media purchases (on Amazon).

If you have an Amex you can also tie that card to your AMZ account and use reward points though if you buy a lot from Amazon, the Prime Visa will rack up points faster.

The trick (or at least what I do) is to not use all of your points on one single item. If say the movie you want is $24.99 but you feel getting it for $17.99 feels like a steal, then just use the 7 points you need to score that deal. Spread the points out across multiple items to make your own deals (if that makes sense).

Using this method to "make my own deals" makes paying full price for LE or Special Edition releases when the time comes feel a lot less painful.

I do want to say though that for items like this new TMNT set that I really care about trying to get the best item (non damaged in shipment, etc) I order from Diabolik.

Never tie your account to Amazon, Amazon was recently hacked, breached.. over millions had their account compromised.. It happened to me last month..
