Isn't the Hobbit Trilogy going to be in 3D? Why exactly are people showing shock/dismay at this when it should be obvious at this point that most blockbusters are going to get the 3D treatment?

I don't think it's 'way' cool. It's immersive and the future of cinema. All new 4K Tv's will have 3D capability and will push the format even further. ![]() By the way,can you actually afford to go 3D? It seems to be those who aren't exactly astute financially who rant most against 3D. ![]() Quote:

The crowd is getting tired? Proof please.... 3D films are highly profitable and 3D Blu Rays sell good amounts.Almost all major Blockbusters over the next 5 years and beyond are 3D,more being added almost every day. When I say get over it I mean 3D is the future of cinema. It just is and there is no way back. Accept it. People on Forums going on about how 3D 'SUCKZ LULZ' does not reflect the real world. In the real world numbers talk. Loud and clear. 3D = $$$$ ![]() |

It's hard to just look at numbers though as for a lot of movies if you want to see it you have to see it in 3D a lot of places, and even with places with 2D options it's on one screen with limited show times so you often end up stuck with a 3D showing or waiting around an hour or more for a 2D showing depending on your schedule.
That said, 3D is clearly doing well and the movie going public likes it. I'm not a huge fan. I don't hate it, but I don't think it ads a lot, I dislike having to wear glasses and sometimes get a headache from them, and especially don't like paying the extra premium when movie tickets are already way overpriced these days (especially in a big city). But I agree it's here to stay. As far as home theater goes, I don't have a 3D TV and have no plans on buying a TV in the near future. I just don't have much interest in having to wear glasses to watch a movie. When technology advances and they can do 3D without glasses and with wide viewing angles I'll be a lot more receptive to the idea. |

3D Tv's have been out for over two years. 3D PC games and applications (in the current form) for four years, 3D cinema (in the current form) for twelve years, PC virtual reality for fifteen years, 3D cinema (in general) for a hundred years. None of these technologies or experiences should cost more than their 2D counterparts. One reason for the empty cinemas I mentioned on the previous page. I'm not rich. I go to 3D movies, have a 3D PC, and owned a 3D plasma. You can budget for it if you really like it, but most people don't care for "how the director intended you to see it". They go for the cheapest screening/television, and are happy with it. Hence 3D doesn't sell to the mainstream. We (film buffs) are not like regular people. Have you ever turned off motion flow on your mates telle and gone; "Now, doesn't that look better?" only to have him/her reply; "I still don't see what you mean!" When the back speakers at A Nightmare on Elm Street screening kept cutting out, of me and my two mates who went, only I noticed. These people don't, and will never, care for 3D as long as it costs more. And when the cost does come down (if it does), the technology is still imperfect, hence the link I posted on the previous page. I get really sleepy after more than 100 minutes of active. My mate almost had a seizure playing Sonic on my PS3 (active). The cinema's never look as good as home. Two people's opinions are never the same. Yeah, opinions are like... everyone has one. But on technical levels, people shouldn't argue. Yeah, someone can say; "I hate The Shawshank Redemption", and you can be like; "Mother...er what?", but that's still an opinion and you gotta respect it. But something like "The Na'vi's eyes look fake" is a technical observation, and is remarkably wrong. 3D should fall in this category. Everyone with two working eyes should see the same thing. There should be no The Phantom Menace is the best/worst 3D conversion debates at all. If it's the best everyone, who can see, should see it. So I refer back to the link I posted on page 8. 3D is great for the six of us who can see it, but for it to be "the future of cinema", the technology needs to be re-invented, and STANDARDIZED. I think that's everything I wanted to say. Last edited by AmrlKJaneway; 10-31-2012 at 09:40 PM. |
