That's a good point! That was a pretty major score for SF. So yeah, sky is the limit I suppose. Can't wait to hear the details.

In terms of PQ, everybody swears the current transfer is adequate, which it probably is, but I think there's enough room for improvement and the odds of MGM coming up with a new master is slim to none. As for Mad Max, the best I can hope for is awesome artwork so I'll have an excuse to get rid of that cumbersome metalpak Warner dreamt up. Other than that, good luck getting Mel Gibson to give an interview.
While both movies look and sound about as good as I'd expect them to on their North American Blu-ray releases, EFNY is barebones and Mad Max's extras aren't great IMO.

It's true that EFNY does have that "stellar" DVD release (which I too still own) but it'd be nice for the completists and the newcomers to be able to get all that content on one shiny Blu-ray disc with an HD version of the film, along with whatever goodies Shout! can cook up. As for Mad Max, if by some miracle they could actually get Gibson and Miller to talk about the film then I'd buy it again.

Speaking of not being able to wait... your Sideshow Snake should probably be arriving in 2 months or so, no? Did you get the exclusive? I keep looking at that figure every once in awhile wishing I were enough of a fan to spring for it. I'd even make a 3-D backdrop of the poster art for my display case...

I'm such a dork. I think I'll live vicariously through you for this one.

Indeed. There are also dumb people like me who sold off most of their movie DVDs when blu ray started, not realizing it could take a decade for all those movies to come out again, and that many would lack features.

I can't speak for Mad Max, as I've never seen them, but EFNY has not had any stellar treatment for BD. The BD released has no special features, it has generic packaging, and the video needs to be remastered better. With Shout releasing it, we are bound to at least have extras and the original poster art for the cover, and who knows, maybe they will remaster it for us.
There are definitely a couple of instances of black crush on the transfer, but overall the existing blu looks about as good as I can imagine this looking. The extras would be the selling point for me.

Yep. Only DVD I regret selling was my Escape From New York SE with slipcover. Sold it for the same price I paid for it but still wished I kept it!

There are some DVDs that are just too nice to give up. I've still got the SEs of Fight Club, Se7en, Wizard of Oz, Pearl Harbor: DC, Dawn of the Dead, Titanic, R2 JPN Grindhouse and the R3 Superbit Deluxe of Black Hawk Down because they're such lovely packages.

I still have most of my DVD's, I usually only sell them once I've upgraded or I've determined I never plan on watching those films again. I've probably cleared out about 30-50 titles in the past couple months to get some money back and make room on the shelf.

Ones that I'll likely never get rid of because of the packaging are Fight Club, Se7en, Serenity, Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Amelie, Terminator 2 (with steel slip cover), The Legacy Collection (Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, Creature, Invisible, Wolfman), Big Fish, Pearl Harbor (60th Anniversary) and Lord of the Rings Trilogy (extended versions with slip box).

I Know exactly what you mean. Still have my EfNY SE, Se7en & Boogie Nights Platinum Series editions, Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition, Monty Python and The Holy Grail, Once Upon a Time in America, Fight Club, Amelie, T2 with metal slip case, Texas Chain Saw Massacre steelbook, probably others. Can't get rid of 'em.

I've never been big on packaging. I did keep some DVDs because I wasn't going to upgrade them immediately. Looking at my shelf I see the Wes Anderson Criterions, Commando, Enemy Mine, American Psycho, Vacation and Christmas Vacation, Lethal Weapon series and more. I have more in a box somewhere too.

Most of them are on BD now, I'm just haven't gotten around to replacing them yet (or in American Psycho's case, not sure it's worth it).

Each to their own sir, each to their own. I'm a sucker for a nice gatefold case, I think it's a holdover from my fondness for Laserdisc.

I'd forgotten about the LOTR EEs and their lovely 'book' style covers. I actually sold mine years ago, but I rebought all three for about £6/$10 a few weeks ago for old times' sake.

Oh man I hate long fold-out stuff. I re-purchased my X-Files season sets just to get rid of the old fold-out packaging. Each their own indeed.

A part of me wants to print out custom covers so I can have every movie and TV set in a thin plastic case. I do like a nice digibook or booklet with essays in it though, would hate to give them up. I dunno!

Ah, but there I totally agree. A two disc, maybe three/four gatefold is fine, but the six/seven disc ones that need you to clear about 6 foot of space to fold open are a total PITA.

Let them go. You'll never watch them again - be honest about it! I had the sense to sell any DVD's worth selling back years ago - I only regretted the EFNY DVD SE funny enough! I knew they'd be worth less and less and wouldn't even get played as blu-rays came out for each film so it made total sense to me.

Looks like your Fight Club SE possession is possessing you...

Oh American Psycho is definitely worth it - just don't buy the US one! Or the German one. Check the international thread but you're OK with Spain, Australia, South Africa ones and there might be a few more.

What, you think I just hoard everything? I've let more go than you can imagine, and keeping a dozen awesome DVD special editions isn't taking up an awful lot of room.

Besides, I don't keep them all for sentimental reasons. I don't have any Blu-ray versions of Dawn of the Dead or Grindhouse, the Pearl Harbor DC isn't available on Blu-ray and the Superbit Deluxe of BHD comes with the soundtrack CD and all of the extras which are missing from the UK/US Blu-ray. The Oz package also comes with some nice reproduction swag.

I've been holding off on buying EFNY and MAD MAX because I thought they both deserved better extra features packages so I am buzzed to just discover this thread

I never bought a single Laserdisc (was too young when they were at their peak) but have seen them in stores back before DVD and remember loving all the big, beautiful art. I think that's when my collecting fires were beginning to get stoked . I wouldn't mind if some retro label popped up and decided to reissue titles in big boxes like LDs. I, for one, would collect at least some of them.
