I'm not saying that you're not allowed to watch Gravity with your kids, or that you can't watch Frozen on your own... but if you're going to see an animated family film, you probably have 1, 2, 3 or more li'l ones (ticket holder$) in tow. Surcharge adds up. Plus, all the word of mouth for Gravity pretty much said "This is a must-see in 3D". |

This is why Disney really want to push digital. They save $$ and still charge premium prices...with no physical ownership to you. Win/win for Disney. |

I pre-ordered from Amazon UK for around $28 USD shipped. The movie looks great, and I can't find time to see it in theaters. I'm not a fan of Disney's sales strategy, exclusives, or paying inflated prices, but given the amount of critical success and awards Frozen is/will be winning, it is worth an exception. Also looking forward to Get a Horse!, another award winner. It's too bad the release date is after the Academy Awards.

Seriously folks, a domestic bluray 3D release would have still been at least $27.99 to $29.99 on release day, so if this really is region free, then there shouldn't be any reason not to get the UK version. |

Seems like we had been getting most Disneys for $20, or occasionally less, after coupon(s) on release day. That's sort of my expectation for how pricing should work. Give the release-week buyers a decent deal, and then jack up the price for a while before letting it fall back to down to "reasonable."
I remember scoring the Finding Nemo metalpak from Best Buy for $15 after coupon and price match, $7 of which was prepaid weeks in advance. I almost felt guilty walking out of the store... Last edited by BleedOrange11; 02-04-2014 at 04:03 AM. |

I found two sites offering the 3D Frozen 3-disc set for pre-order with a different UPC than the 2-disc (3D/BD or BD/DVD) sets.
I suspect they just haven't cancelled the UPC like Amazon did... (P.S. I tried to post this a week or two ago, but it never appeared....) |

Are the two websites a secret?

I can't imagine why Disney would give up on 3D when they were the leaders (next to Imax 3D) in 3D support starting back in 2011 onward for blu ray 3D. Other than financial concerns with all that's going on at Disney and tightening their belts as a result for the moment till the next big hit Star Wars VII 3D. Frozen is a big hit, so who knows for certain. |

The next question is, would Disney have plans they're not yet revealing for a 3D version? Is that even possible? I doubt it, as their goal is to gain pre sales and build up anticipation, so not offering a pre order is as many have suggested, not a good sign for the 3D version of this movie anyway. Thankfully the rest of the 3D industry continues in theaters and home video 3D.

I actually just spoke with someone at Disney who told me there would be a 3D blu still coming out but he didn't know when. He said that even thought its been cancelled they will in fact be releasing it but they don't have the details on when yet. He mentioned that they should be getting more info after the initial blu-ray release.
I have no idea how reliable this is, so take it with a grain of salt. He could have been miss informed or it could be real. Won't know until after the release apparently. Either way, id say its a possibility that there were some upset loyal Disney customers and that might be effecting the decision. Or its another plan to inflate sales. Maybe if more people refuse the 2D blu and or voice their opinion it'll help. |
