Close to $1bn. Kudos to WB, James Wan and his crew for an incredible superhero film offering eye candy visuals and stunning sound. I enjoyed this so much thanBlack Panther and Infinity War.

It’s a shame it got snubbed for a VFX Oscar cause it deserves the spot Black Panther has on the shortlist. Major SMH moment.

Are you sure Aquaman just didn't release in time to be considered?

If Mary Poppins was able to get in, why wouldn't Aquaman?

There are some weird rules about consequative release days, etc. you also have to have the studio submit/campaign for you.

Totally agree. I am neither a Marvel nor a DC fanboy as I like them both and give credit where it is deserves.

I really hope they are not going to go give any awards to Black Panther. I would say the VFX and the Sound on this beat the crap out of Infinity War as well. WB and DCEU know how to get the sound right unlike Disney

Strongly disagree.
There was nothing "special" about the VFX and there were plenty of dodgy shots throughout.

For example: did anyone really believe Temuera Morrison was standing on a dock at sunrise?

There was more special going on here than BP, that’s for sure. It doesn’t deserve its spot, AM at least deserves the shot.

I actually do believe he was standing on that dock. Well, specifically, this dock here:

Has the best VFX on any blockbuster this year. Puts the VFX on the MCU movies this year to shame. Their is a reason it has the cover spotlight on Cinefex magazine.

Cinefex doesn't put it on the cover for that reason. It's just the "biggest" movie of the current issue, which is bimonthly.

Overlord, Bumblebee, Infinity War, Solo, Ready Player One...all had better VFX.

I didn't say it was for that reason that it is spotlighted specifically but they usually tend to spotlight the ones that really push the medium. But in no way are those movies (and I love Bumblebee BTW) better than this. When any SH in these Marvel film takes off there mask or helmet, it is so painfully obvious that its CGI. As example Banner in the Hulkbuster armor, virtually all Tony and Spidey shotss... just no. This is the Avatar(visually) of SH films IMO, not surprising as WB has always kicked MCU ass in the VFX department. Some of the shots, a lot of the VFX I've never seen(the underwater sequences are breathtaking) before. Everything in those movies I've seen the same some less than 6 months apart (SW) nothing new or dynamic.

I don't know if your monitor is calibrated or not, but DC films have looked more artificial than Pixar. Some of the VFX in Justice League was flat out embarrassing, whereas the MCU VFX have dozens of vendors and maybe a handful of dodgy shots. Iron Man & Spidey looked just fine - and they often wore practical suits (especially Spider-Man). Thanos himself is one of the best all-CG characters on film.

Figures you point out the botch job that is Justice League, MoS? BvS? WW? At least MoS use practicals for the collar bone to help blend the CGI. When exactly is Spidey in practical in Infinity War? The CGI around the faces on Infinity War is terrible and I expect better given how much money these movies rake in. I don't have any problem with Thanos. That is the strongest aspect of the VFX for Infinity war.

MoS and BvS had too much "fuzzy blurred world" VFX which worked in 300 but not so much in DC. WW had a LOT of TERRIBLE VFX. It was like CW channel quality. The movie being enjoyable made up for a lot of it though.

Banner in the Hulkbuster armor stood out because everything else had been so well done.

They've never been able to get the "human head sticking out of Iron Man armor" 100% right on these Avengers movies for some reason. For the proper Iron Man movies, they look fine. But I guess the sheer amount of VFX in the bigger Avengers movies means the suit gets less attention.

This is honestly the first ive heard anyone complain about MoS’ CG. The films may not be great to all but MOS and BvS have some great CGI. WWs CG is about the same as Black Panther’s. It’s clear both films made the best with their respective budgets.
