It was such a good movie, and I enjoyed it more than my favorite of last year...and the release date will be right after I get my HTS so I will be rocking out to the score!

I have trouble believing Slumdog Millionaire will be out that soon. It still hasn't been released wide yet, and I would expect that there would be a post-Oscars jump in business, especially if it could pull out a Best Picture win. I would have guessed this would be an April/May release.

I think they're anticipating it winning Best Picture.

Can't wait for Australia!

Don't know much about Slumdog Millionaire, so I'll give it a rent.

If they release a movie only for critics in theatres and then put on Blu Ray and it sells a 100 copies, does it really exist?

No movie is just released in theatres for critics...Critics always see films at advanced screenings or by the DVD screeners they are mailed to. All films are released in theatres...you just have to search for them. Many Oscar-y films are released in art house cinemas...

Slumdog Millionaire, however, does have a wide release. It came out on the 21st of December although it was playing at art house cinemas before then. I am also sure since the movie is so hyped and is doing quite well for not a mainstream film...and the many oscar nominations it will get (and might win), the sales will be way up.

I was being a little sarcastic. Even in its "wide" release its only playing in 600 theatres. That is an average of 12 per state. A movie shouldnt be considered for the oscars unless it is released in enough theatres for most Americans to actually see it.

Once it gets nominated it will be released wide, so then everyone who wants to see it can see it.

And even if the whole nation doesnt see it, the film will always be known for how great it is...the way I see it is there are plenty of BIG films that make a good amount that will be totally forgotten about in 10 years.

I get a feeling our opinions are going to differ no matter what. It seems you are one of those people that only like things arent popular or trendy.

Even if these films are released in 1500+ theatres, regular movie goers will not go and see them. Artistic films are usually not that popular amongst regular movie goers...although they miss out on some great films. Oscars do not consider films by how much money they make, but how well made the film is made artistically. Some films became really popular after they win Oscars, which is great, but films that win Oscars are not necessarily supposed to be mainstream films...that way, Independent films would no longer be needed...many of the films that get considered for Oscars are in fact independent films.

Not only that, but it helps boost ticket sales in the indy theaters...both BrokeBack Mountain and No Country kept the local indy theater here packed for weeks when the Oscar Buzz came about...

So lets vote for the next president but only have 2000 people who are in politics actually vote. They need to be released and more people need to see and vote for them or I dont think they can be considered "the best".

Can't wait to get Slumdog Millionaire. Was my second favorite film this year behind The Dark Knight.
