Yup i did that too. It is very strange. Every other disc i own works fine in my player. The only time this has happened was when i tried playing 500 days of Summer and it would only play the menu and that is it. On this disc i close the tray and it says close for about 25 secs, and then never says Loading, and then lights on it go dark but it don't shut off. I press play and it says Cannot Play this Disc.

It sucks cuz I have been looking forward to this Movie/Blu all year.

I rented Kick-Ass blu from Red Box and that disc didn't work either. Must be something with my player.

Everyone that has got Kick-Ass to work on their S300, what firmware are you using?

I just tried the same disc at my dad's house and he has the exact same player, and it worked no problems on his. He is running the 4.2 firmware though, and i wondered if that could be the problem.

Thanks for the help.

What is the going rate for a BDP-S300 these days?

I replaced it with a Philips BDP-3000 sometime ago when I managed to get one cheap.

The Sony BDP-S300 still works, but it doesn't have BD-live capabilities or the original box.

Depends on if you purchase a refurb or new. At least on Amazon.

Gotta remember "The Tank" is 3 years old and only a second generation player. Just like a tank, it may be big, slow and plodding in getting you there. But it usally gets you there with little to no trouble.

If Sony is smart they will offer firmware updates on their players for an average of 3 to 5 years. If you stop supporting your products too soon, people will stop buying from you.

Just retired my 300 to the bedroom. But that price for this 3 year old model? They can't be serious.

Got a Sony 570, three weeks ago, for less than half that price. It is profile 2.0, has streaming and is nearly instant "on". I couldn't be happier.

The 300 was a tank, and built solid. Good for me for 3 + years, but I simply had to update the features & there was no amount of firmware updating that was going to make that happen. I cannot believe someone is selling this model anymore. And at that price! Stay away from that seller!

So basically, what you're saying with that link is, that if I can sell my old S300, that I should do so soon and jack up the price while potential customers are idiots.

Thanks for that.

Ugh, no I didn't mean that.

Tanks don't age like cars. That's why they still fetch a premium price. Because you can still wage war with them, even though they are old.

Since the Xbox 360 Slim isn't even a blu-ray player, the initial question was worth a lol.

Its doesnt have to be a blu-ray player to upscale, it simply needs to be able to play with a progressive refresh rate, and not interlaced as far as I believe, which is why some PC DVD players are able to do it. Now, back to the original question and if someone who knows what they are talking about could answer I would be grateful...

Yep. You can buy a stand alone upscaling DVD player, and thats why I asked "why"?.

Gee, a new firmware for the old "Tank".
I didn't know that.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be installing this one tonight.
