Either because Universal didn't want to spend the money or Trevorrow didn't care enough to push for them. It's extra bad because there's a behind-the-scenes video about the one scene that actually used an animatronic dinosaur, and everyone is talking about how it improved their performances and how it's paying tribute to Stan Winston and how they should be using more animatronic dinosaurs.

Universal is known for replacing practical effects with CGI. Happened to The Thing (2011) also.

THIS IS LOOKING S P E C T A C U L A R!!
The person who edited this featurette should be rewarded. They should throw a party for that editor. That new twist on the Jurassic theme music is awesome. I hope it's in the movie. This also looks very different in tone than any Jurassic Park movie so far. Even different from the first one. it feels much larger and epic in scale. That's totally a good thing! Some very intense and good scenes. Justice Smith's scream is my new favourite Jurassic Scream in a hall of Jurassic screams! I felt so emotional seeing Blue. She seems thin than last time. I am sure I'll be crying seeing the bond between her and her "Dad" Owen on screen. I am a bit concerned with her lying on a stretcher. I hope they don't kill her. The set up looks very similar to The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Ian Malcolm is back, He looks young, despite that awful beard! I hope he's not just in that one scene though. Very excited for the movie! Quote:
They are most likely not going for a 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' multiple aspect ratio look. At most, the IMAX digital version might open up to 2.00:1 (the ratio of the flat scenes in this clip) for some scenes or the entire movie (which I very much doubt). Some of the shots like When Blue surprises Owen, looks too tightly cropped in 2.40:1. Blue meets Owen 1.jpg Blue meets Owen 2.jpg Blue meets Owen 3.jpg These shots feel a bit "cropped" looking too me and maybe a bit too tight for my tastes. This gate shot also feels as if they cut off the bottom a lot. JW Gate Ruined.jpg I'm only saying this because being a photographer and having shot a mini documentary, the shot composition feels a bit "off." If it was me, I'd frame it down a bit and have the gate pillars touch the roof of the frame, to heighten the intended effect of a once magnificent entry door lying in ruins. It's not a complaint. It's Oscar Faura and Bayona's choice. And I shouldn't judge anything without seeing the entire shot or entire movie. Last edited by Riddhi2011; 12-06-2017 at 05:59 PM. |

Also, those screencaps you posted of Blue. Can't tell if that's a full bodied animatronic or CGI. Could be a mix of both though. As in shoulder up is puppet and rest is filled in with computer animation.

As for the "Alan" part, do you know about lucid dreaming? In our dreams we are often influenced by what's happening outside in the real world. If we are dreaming something and something happens in our room, like someone talking, something touching us, that manifests into the dream and influences it. Grant was having a nightmare involving a Raptor. Suddenly Billy called him - "Alan, Alan," He hadn't woken up yet, so the words from Billy had to fit into the dream. The raptor was closer to him and thus he saw that unreal sight of the raptor calling him. We see similar ridiculous stuff in our dreams that never make sense and we feel they are beyond our control; we feel helpless. Also, thematically, the Raptor calling him is symbolically important. Alan Grant appears very rigid at the start of the fim about knowing dinosaurs only from bones. He rejects Jurassic Park. But later in the film, through his various encounters with the InGen animals, particularly the plot of the Raptors (the key thread in the film), he learns more about them than he ever did from studying bones. So, figuratively, he does answer the call of the Raptor. And literally he also answers the call of the raptor by blowing the 3D printed Raptor resonating chamber and saving the group's lives. So, that was a solid foreshadowing of character and plot, done subtly, in my opinion. But unfortunately, most people just didn't get it and saw it as a parody. Johnston is better than we give him credit for. |
