^Why not wish for a region-free player and get the excellent blu-ray releases some of these films have had for years in other territories?

I would love to see Year of a Dragon released in America or the UK, but I'd say Arrow are a better bet for that one.

It's already out in France, but I don't want a booklet in French. or hard French subs (which are still common?)

If there's one disappointment with the New Year's drawing it's the lack of any hints for the SC movies coming back in print.

Which films have treatments on par with Criterion's?

I’m also excited about Criterion’s 2019 releases, due to the hints in the doodle as well as their stellar last few years.

One of the things I’m wishing for is a WINGS OF DESIRE reissue that uses the 2017 restoration of the film, which I had the opportunity to see last night at the Siskel Film Center.

The film is as wonderful and relevant as ever, and the restoration is gorgeous—remarkably crisp and clear—and after some quick comparisons with the existing blu-ray, I think there is a case to be made for a reissue. A title card before the film mentioned that the elements used in previous versions were sometimes up to six generations removed from the negative.

I know it’s likely difficult for Criterion to justify this sort of reissue, especially given how handsome and comprehensive their current disc is, but it’s not unprecedented...so, here’s hoping.

Probably wouldn’t hurt to do a new disc for PARIS, TEXIS while they’re at it, either.

It is, but it seems they rarely hint at upgrades or re-issues on the drawings. Hopefully we'll be surprised this year.

I'd like to see some of Warner's catalog released this year by Criterion.

The Warner Archive Collection is fine, but the releases are just bare-bone ones, whereas I know with Criterion they would get the full treatment.

I don't believe I saw any Warner titles in the Jan 1st puzzle, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

If anyone were to release Year of the Dragon, it would be Shout! or Warner Archives, at least that's what I think.

Shout! has already released the Sicilian and Desperate Hours, and now have a deal with Warner. I would think this would be an easy pick up for them, but who really knows.

Also, in the past how indicative has a movie having a phantom page on Criterion's page been with the film actually getting a physical release?

There are some really good films that have phantom pages on their website, but no releases.

Swing Time (RKO) and, possibly, After Hours.

Of the top of my head:

Onibaba (1964) - Eureka UK
Paper Moon (1973) - Eureka UK (unlikely in the US due to rights)
Ruggles Of Red Gap (1935) - Eureka UK
Shoot The Piano Player (1960) - Artificial Eye UK (in a box set, but iirc some of these Truffaut films could use a newer remaster)
The Testament of Doctor Mabuse (1933) - Eureka UK
Can't vouch for all of these, and there are a few others that have non-UK releases which probably aren't "on par" with Criterion, but that's a start for you. Be sure to click the little flag in the search bar at the top and choose the globe so you can see results from all regions.

AFTER HOURS is going to speculated for so long that if/when it's released, it's gonna be like "See! I TOLD you it was coming!"

It's been speculated since I got into Criterion in like 2010.

It's no guarantee. In the past pages were added for physical releases or Filmstruck offerings. It looks like they've added Criterion Channel pages.

If you can't wait there's a solid, and very inexpensive, recent German release with a myriad of subtitle options including just the "foreign dialogue" in English --

So, the possible Warner stuff that you guys found in the Jan 1st puzzle (so far) is:

-Klute
-Hedwig And The Angry Inch
-Swing Time
-After Hours

I'd get all 4 of those Day 1.

I'm still looking at the clues to see if anymore Warner stuff comes to mind.

Thanks for those 4 tentative titles though guys, and if you come up with any other hidden Warner titles, please post them.
